Has anyone bought anything off the two mentioned above? Did you have any problems getting stuff sent?

I've dealt with Brownells a number of times. There is no problem with tools. I believe that gunparts in excess of $100 require an export permit that adds $200 to the bill, and considerable time. I have experienced this trying to buy barrels.

Gunparts require a B709, from the Police, when they are detained by customs. But this is usually a fax request and a formality.

Midway won't send stuff here anymore. I tried to buy the Jack Rowe shotgun fixing dvd from Midway but there site says they won't ship overseas (?).

Looks like some of their "markups" are doubled or more from Midway.

Tony: contact me if you have a problem getting anything from this side of the lake. I've reshipped lots of things, you get your end taken care of, and I'll get it shipped off from here.

Here in NZ - Midway is a waste of time now.

I find it easy to deal with Brownells. They will charge a 3% fee for special items that need permits such as bullets & some parts.

I found Reloading international - https://www.reloadinginternati...m05qh94mtnutl2igm432 - great to deal with & very reasonable with their export fees & documentation. I got CEB bullets through them without any trouble - just took a few weeks.

A certified gunsmith in the US is allowed to ship stuff below $200 or $250 without permit. I got a few fore & rear sights from a gunsmith in this manner.

I am not sure if the Australian rules make it a problem.

Thanks Guys and thanks for the offer George. I'm just after a Mauser safety so it should come in under the $100 bucks.

I reckon you could set up a business doing just that George. Big Grin
It's a major headache for us trying to get even small things, like safeties, out of the US.

I couldn't even get a 2-quart GI water bottle sent from an American shop. However, there's a business called International Checkout that somehow expedites the forwarding of stuff from other online merchants that won't send it themselves.

I haven't used it for about three years but see it still exists.

Forget now exactly how it worked but it did not need a permit and I don't recall paying much if any more than ordinary postal rates.

I can't believe gun parts over $ 100 need export/import permit
Can't believe we allow gov officials run our lives that way.

John:
I used to do a lot of this for your mates over there and UK. Then a buddy here doing the same thing was visited by the Feds. They put a scare into him so we've both quit. He was sending a LOT of pkgs to RSA & Zim, Oz etc. Several a month. So it's no wonder he got flagged. I've sent half dozen barrel to oz, three to UK. But, many months between and several yrs ago now.

Way I did it was: you buy 'em on CC and have shipped to me, send me your import permit info and I fill out the paperwork & mail it. Never had a question or problem. The shocking part of the deal is the cost of postage is plumb scary. More than the items were worth a few times.

My e'mail is: gldwight1@yahoo.com if you want to discuss it further. Too much here now.

Wish you well,
George

American postage does seem expensive, George. I finally got that water bottle from England for not much more and half the postage.

just emailing a dealer in U.S. www.taylorsfirearms.com (Chiappa, Uberti, Pedersoli parts) concerning an order over $100 and they said they didn't need an Export Permit.

So perhaps it's "significant" gunparts the require an Export permit not just orders over $100.

They seem good to deal with so I'll put it out there for Aussies in case they need such parts.

IT's on YOUR side that needs the permits.
We only need those numbers and same name you
used to get it.
All we have to do is fill out the customs forms
with that info and mail it. Just be sure and be safe and legal on your end.
