Steve,

Thanks for the photos. I edited your post, use "Align Image" and "None" not "Left" when posting photos.

Regards,

Terry

Nice pics Steve thumb Those wallabys have a thick coat! What species are they, do you know?

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Bakes -

if these wallabies are from the Waimate area of the South Island they will be the red-necked or brush wallaby Macropus rufogrisea.
These guys have been in the area since 1874.

Yep, they are Red Necked Wallabies, we hunted them in winter by hunting gullies, we would sit and glass at various points on the shady side- looking across to the sunny side. The Wallabies could be spotted sunning themselves.

We tried the shotguns but I was not impressed with the killing power.

They vary in size a great deal, the one I am holding up is a mature buck, the young females are tiny in comparison.

Nice bag of different species. Love the chamois.

Damned big heavy wallabies. Guess they have a rich diet.

Bakes - those Tasmanian wallabies dont have webbed feet do they ? Wink Or play banjos like the kid off "Deliverance" ?

According to my referance book there are six species of wallaby resident in NZ - the red-necked/brush wallaby ; the black tailed or swamp wallaby ; the black striped wallaby ( although this one is very rare , if not actually extinct ); the Dama or Tamma wallaby ; the white throated or Parma wallaby; and the brush-tailed rock wallaby.

The Parma wallaby is pretty rare in Australia and numbers of them have been sent "home" from NZ to help repopulate the species.

Wallabies are found in the Rotorua area of the North Island , on several islands in the Hauraki Gulf region of northern North Island , and in the aptly named Hunter Hills of South Canterbury ( South Island ) where the ones pictures were found.
