Culling. http://www.usatoday.com/news/w...sion-slaughter_N.htm They talked about it more than three months ago. They finally built up the justification for doing it. The pattern is repeated every four or five months. Some other "non-native" species gets slaughtered.

Whats your point? Do you want a few hundred camels in your backyard? Or are you saying the cull should have happened sooner? Cheers, Dave. Aut Inveniam Viam aut Faciam.

The camel cull just seems to be the cull of the month. Everytime I turn around the government is culling something in Australia. If not camels, corelia, or foxes, or crocodiles, or cats, or feral dogs There was an interesting article in the Qantas magazine this past month. Australia was seeming to encourage Australians to be their culling device. It wasn't supposed to be sport hunting or fun, it was just supposed to rid Australia of some creature they didn't want any more. In the case of some birds they admit that the birds are native to Australia, just not native to Western Australia so they wanted them culled. In most ways I find Australia behind the U.S., but in this culling fetish I think I see the future in the U.S. Get rid of hunting and just periodically cull things that become too abundant without hunting.

Govt sponsored culling is just another way for them to blow your tax dollars and discourage Aust. hunters from being involved. "Stand back - we'll take care of this situation...bring in the gunships!!" For the most part hunters are locked out of these aboriginal and public land areas (Nat Parks) where these culls will be happening.... you work it out!! Australia is ''best at '' selling iron ore ,coal etc to foreign countries for a pittance ,letting any foreigners come in here and buy as much real estate and agricultural land as they want .Letting anyone into Australia despite their Criminal history, but not letting someone you know from a foreign country in here on a visitor visa because of some pisspoor excuse from immigration.Giving billions of taxpayers money to countries like Indonesia, so they will still buy our beef. And generally grovelling to any country, because the Politicians, do gooders are scared they might upset someone .Having a piss weak attitude towards crime ,and a pathetic gutless Judicial system which takes care of offenders and doesnt give a crap about victims.Because the the weak Leadership which pervades this country and the men who answer to their wives and women in politics E.G.Former Prime Minister John Howard stated ''I have never fired a gun, and never touched a gun and my wifes very proud of me ''.What hope have you got ?

I mentioned an article in Qantas last month. It wasn't Qantas, it was airnorth. I was surprised to see a hunter posing with a dead fox, five rabbits and his rifle. That would freak-out U. S. air travellers. There was another photo of a hunter with a dead goat. The fence the rabbits and fox are hanging on has a sign that reads Private Property, No permission, NO HUNTING". Culling again is the topic at hand. The article claims there are 2.3 million wild goats, 23 million disease-spreading wild pigs, and countless feral cats, dogs and foxes; and unknown millions of rabbits. The article refers to "conservation hunting". They refer to a move away from non-Governmental organizations such as the SSAA to State bodies such as NSWGC which deal with pest control and hunting licenses. They say NSWGC matches hunters with farmers to direct the hunters to farms with high densities of pests and State Forests with feral problems. Volunteer hunters suppress the pest numbers. They claim they have popped approximately 12,000 rabbits, 4,500 feral goats, 3,500 wild pigs and 2,500 foxes since March 2006. This doesn't sound like much of an answer for 2.3 million goats and 23 million wild pigs. Sounds to me like they are breeding faster than they are killing them. They mention the NSW Shooters Party that holds the balance of power in the Upper House is proposing the release of new exotics for the purpose of tropy hunting. The article seems to be pro-culling and anti trophy hunting. I'm impressed that a hunting article got printed in a magazine geared toward non-hunters, but I have a ton of questions. Can the average Joe actually hunt in Australia, or just in NSW, or no where? I didn't get the feeling there was any momentum either direction; just a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. That being the case, I guess it is just more culling as the need arises. What happened to all the hunters in Australia. Did they just give up over the course of a few generations?
