Our farm here is 2400 acres all up Including some lease. But much of it is Bush and half is quite hilly. We had about 800 cattle of different ages on here, half of those we milked.
The new farm is about 800 acres, and almost dead flat River terraces. We will have about 600 milking cows to start with, though its currently doing 700. Its a new area and different seasons, so we will start lower until we are used to it

Only problem with moving to the Reefton area Craig is that you won't be able to see much to shoot, it's so damn foggy Big Grin

I spent my early childhood there, brought over from Christchurch when I turned one and stayed until I started school in Hokitika as a 5 yo. Lived in the house which is now the Blue Bell motel by the bridge and at 3 yo regularly sent 'up' town with my little trolly to the butchers and bakers to get meat and bread. I can still very faintly remember the fog, don't know how I ever crossed the street to the butchers, how many 3 yo'ds would be sent on a mission like that today.

Over the years when passing through the Reefton area I've encounter that damn fog again.

In my 71st year I finally retired from my full time job two weeks ago tomorrow. Have spent the last week and a half looking after a couple of grandkids in Auckland (two different daughters kids). We are now in the process of selling up and moving to Canterbury, will be closer to two more grandkids and lots of good hunting around the Mt Hutt area. Have a tahr block to do in July and of course our duckshooting opener coming up in May which we do in Methven every year. Got a 8 months old springer spaniel now so hoping to get into some good pheasant and quail areas too.

Best wishes on your move to the West Coast hope it all works out.

One of our best sharemilkers (took them 8 seasons to go from farm worker to farm owners) bought their first farm at Inangahua Landing just north of Reefton. The Chamois came right down to the valley bottom. Easy hunting off the slips besides the creek. Unfortunately they have now moved to Otago.
