So Gadge, sorry if i was a bit crumpy sounding. Sure you are right about the old powder going off. But what I was talking about was that I believe that if a powder is going off, and it is used IN A GUN, the pressure will be LOWER if anything. I believe this has been well doc. with chronos. Anyway if it was dangerous to use im sure we would know about it from the powder people. So I'm sure our Mil dot friend Corporal Punishment, aka Kernel Klink, aka Killer Karl, whatever, will have to find some other way to come unstuck.

Can't get any reliable (or otherwise) feedback here or other places, but now I'm wondering if the double based powders deteriorate differently to single base. This nitro Gly stuff may be more potent, or maybe with all of us jumping to conclusions about everything, and the "Westerns" featuring di-nee-mite going off,. . .

No difference really. Same phenomena occurring - breakdown of nitro compounds. Same reaction products. I've had some DuPont Hi-Skor 700X that deteriorated, so it went on the garden. Wasn't going to let it go until it lit off. And if it does get that far, it will still just burn, not detonate. It is possible to get high-NG double-base powders to detonate, but it requires specific conditions. Cheers, Doug

Yes well anyone lets their powder go off just isn't shooting enough. Serves them right. Anyway read somewhere reciently ADI reckon their stuff will last indefinatly if stored reasonably. Seems they can do something right!
