Saw bugger all!!. A few pig tracks but they were a few days old. Saw heaps of Burdakin ducks (sp?) Usually you only see the odd couple but today every waterhole has a small flock. Came across a brown tree snake and a long neck turtle. Also saw a BIG freshie in one of the waterholes. They come up off the river to breed. The waterhole he was in dries completly during the dry. Even though we got stuff all it was a good walk.

Sounds like a good day out anyway. I went hunting yesterday, shot my first four pheasants ever. We hunted over pointing dogs. It was neat watching these dogs work, they are amazing.

John,

It was an all day event, supposed to be a big group of ladies but only four of us showed up. I had never done any upland bird hunting before, some of the others had. They had a big BBQ lunch for us at 1300 and we went back out in the afternoon as well to clean the field out.

I took my only shotgun, a Remington 1100 12 ga. First thing we shot some skeet. I did terrible the first round then on round two and three I nailed everything except the first shot. Our weather is very cold right now and we were all dressed accordingly, thick clothing is not real manageable with gun stocks. As it was, I got it figured out, I need to just keep the stock on my face and I can hit anything it seems. I have a set of TruGlow sights on the ribbed barrel for that shotgun, they are nice.

I was the first to kill a bird, the first couple did not fly near me and others shot at them and missed. We walked mostly in a line across sections of the field and when the dogs went on point we kind of surrounded them. That first one I got I had to nearly step on it, I could not see it in the grass at all! The dogs knew it was there. It flew up and off to my right so I really had to swing around. I blew it's butt and legs off since it was flying directly away.

The rest went much better, I did miss a few. They were too far away and had been blasted at by others and just came past my line of fire. I just shot at them to shoot. The nice thing is I have some fresh pheasant, now I need a recipe.

I saved some wings for my dog to see how she handles it.

I love watching a good dog work, doen't matter what its doing, as long as its well trained.

Well done Ann.
