I too have spent my time in less than reputable establishments but one of the worst things I'ver seen was in one of the "nicer" places - a guy got slashed with a box cutter on the back from neck to ass, a friend wound up rushing him in his car to the nearest hospital as waiting for the meat wagon, he would have bled to death. The inside of the car was a mess. Another incident involved an associate who got hit in the head with a bottle and spent 2 days in a coma. I've learned to be incredibly paranoid about this sort of thing - I always stand with my back to the wall and I try to keep an empty beer bottle within arms length for "emergancies". The other thing I've learned is avoid confrontation but if things are going to happen, don't wait for the other guy to swing first. Hit hard, fast and dirty, then leave, QUICKLY. The idea is to protect your own skin. As for BAW's punching bag, I would have beaten the snot outta him, quick and dirty because for all you know he has buddies following right behind. If your gonna escalate the situation, make sure you end it with him incapable of doing you harm.
