Spent yesterday at our national Agricutural Fielddays just out of Hamilton , three hours or so north of here . Lots of discounted polarfleece hunting clothes aand assorted other cheaper priced goodies to stock up on - pack was full on the way out the gate . But the highlight of the trip was calling in to a small town gunshop run by a guy I know moderately well - whilst in the shop swapping lies in saunters an average looking local bloke , with his pig hunting rifle and an Aimpoint sight .The guy wants to mount the Aimpoint on his gun , someone gave it to him apparently . You dont get all the facts when you are eavesdropping... Anyway, his gun is a Russian Baikal singleshot break action in some calibre or other , popular with the pighunters cos they are light and cheap . Mr shop owner explains that the Aimpoint mount is different to the rib on the gun , he will have to drill and tap for a weaver type base . The hunter needed that explaining to him twice , then asked how the Aimpoint worked , showing total amazement at the on-off switch , and didnt understand at all about the switch to alter the light intensity- seems he thought it was for people with poor eyesight . We were trying hard not to laugh , Mr Shopowner was being diligent and courteous and the hunter still didnt get any of it . The only thing missing was the banjo playing hillbilly kid off "Deliverance". The things you see when you arent armed..... | ||
