We're planning a hunt in the Northern territories for '09 now. Never hunted abroad before and mostly wild boar here plus deer and elk. I will take two guns. Not sure about what to bring. I plan on taking my trusted 280AI and a 9.3x66 I will have built by then. Is my small gun too big? My big gun too small? I could take the wife's tack driving 260, but that model 7 is built for her 5'1"/110 lb. frame, not my 6'0"/310 lb hulk. Uncomfortable but not unmanageable. I have also flirted with the idea of building a 375 RUM instead of the 9.3x66. But the 9.3 will be more useful when I get home. Any opinions? Ideas? Sage advice?

I have only hunted N.T once,i would just take one rifle and shoot everything with it. Your 9.3X66 will do the job. What do you plan to hunt?? Buffalo and pigs?? "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Sir Winston Churchill

Yeah I'd just use the 9.3x66 for everything too. Keep it simple. A .375 H&H is a good place to start for buffalo but the 9.3mm is very similar. If you bring a medium bore, whatever you like will do.

Have to agree with others that you should try to use one gun. The 9.3X66 should be fine as long as you dont lose your ammo or run out. This caliber is not widely available down under. You might want consider something main stream like a 375H&H. Alternatively chamber for 9.3X62 for your NT trip and ream out to 9.3X66 when you get back home. 9.3X62 is widely available on the EC at least.
