Only shot 22 for the whole season. There are just none around. They have to be somewhere but they aren't here. Like the ducks, maybe they have gone north to where the rain has been. Joke. They could be anywhere I guess. They just don't damn near become extinxct one year then thick as fleas the next. I don't think they would migrate out into the desert regions, but the big numbers HAVE to be somewhere.

GBB, Our 30 acres has a lone pair ... they're good for one point per day or a flush when the dog does it all wrong ... then a yip yip yip of an excited Brittany Last weekend I had the dogs at both One and Two tree swamps trying to find some birds ... no luck, not even a yip yip yip. My deer hunting mate has 700acres of dryland beef farm... hopefully searching that in the next fortnight or so. Gut-feeling ... bet you there are some birds down around between Geelong through Colac. Cheers... Con

There are quite a few birds west of Ballarat, and have been more concetrated since farmers have started burning-off the stubble. I have been rather busy recently but hope to be chasing them soon. Was invited to some trials and saw plenty of quail, plenty in fact. Tasso

At Field and Game yesterday, a few of the cockies mentioned seeing heaps of quail while sowing (those who are taking the risk as most think there is not enough moisture in the ground and the rain may not come). But all said they were bunched up into small areas but heaps wherever they were bunched. One old guy in his 70's said he hasn't seemed them so bunched up before. Wonder why they hadn't flown?
