Received this in the inbox the other day.

Hi Anthony,

In a massive advocacy win that impacts recreational deer hunters Australia-wide, the Australian Deer Association has defeated the proposal to ban lead bullets for recreational deer hunting in Victoria by 31 December 2028.

The proposed ban has been completely withdrawn.

This monumental victory by the Australian Deer Association has avoided serious repercussions for recreational deer hunting and animal welfare Australia-wide.

As a result of our ongoing evidence-based approach to advocacy, the Victorian government has listened to and acknowledged the Australian Deer Association’s well-held concerns regarding the efficacy, availability, and suitability of the current range of non-lead alternatives.

Great outcomes such as these are only made possible by your support as a member of the Australian Deer Association, and I would like to thank you for that. Big wins like these do not come around often and should be celebrated. You should be proud to know that your membership in the Australian Deer Association contributed to this outcome.

We will have more to say on the rest of the Wildlife (Game) Regulations 2024 over the next week or so, but I wanted to share the great news immediately.

Best regards,

Sean Kilkenny
Advocacy and Deer Management

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

A good win to have. The authorities being sensible for a change.
Personally I prefer monometal bullets when hunting for the freezer these days but have other uses for standard cup & core bullets. It's always better to maintain rather than restrict choices to keep the market somewhat honest.

Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Silly rules anyway!

Spent all my childhood with a mouthful of air gun pellets.

Every day.

Most of the day.

Many years.

Cooked birds shot with shotgun, and almost every time we eat them we find lead peon our mouths!

Must have affected my brain very badly!

I can’t imagine anyone with brains would consider Tony a friend! rotflmo

I even sent an email to our local member, Danny Pearson, thanking him for any part he took in this decision.

Maybe it's something to do with the democratic traditions of this small state, but I feel Victoria's gun-and-hunting laws are the fairest in the country. Thank God I don't live in one of those frontier states ironically evolved into a nanny state.
