I am really awash here.

What is the chance that the recommendations put forward will be accepted? I guess also, what are the steps after a RIS is put into place?

How much clout does it have? How likely to be accepted?

If it was accepted, the fee increase would see the end of my side line firearms dealership but it will really put the pressure on the dealers in the area (Horsham). I would reckon one major dealer will call it quits. The smaller ones (who are spread all over the Wimmera and Mallee) will fall like a deck of cards. One dealership in Hsm is already counting the costs after their run in with a major importer/ distributor.... who was after a maximum killing for the "right" to sell their guns.... I better have a look at AHN now...

The ones that remain will do well, I think.

The price of guns and accessories will rise for sure.

GBB,
Every single dealer MUST put in a response preferably without the words "You must be dreaming" followed by many stronger words ...
If nothings done, no complaints received, no straight talk about how business will close ... it may come to pass. Let your local State member know as well.

From memory 17th of March is the closing date, they've also snuck in a few extra surprises in the full document ... so its worth having a read.
Cheers...

Worst case scenario, the minister doesn't listen, VCAT.
However, if enough small shops bury the minister under enough paperwork, who knows?
The dumb prick might even read some of them...

I got a copy sent out by D o J and have drafted a letter. It makes interesting reading; some of the logic is interesting.

Been contacted by FDA and it looks like it might be subject to far more realistic fees yet still being cost effective.

GBB,
If you had to pay $7000 for your dealer's license ... how much would come back at tax time?
Cheers...

I heard Alan Stoops from SSAA talking on this . The SSAA boys have rolled the Dept. of Justice on these increases . They have settled for a 2.5% increase across the board .

I heard the 2.5% figure too. Am a member of SSAA and other groups. I think some others may have had an input too in the "discussions" that look to have brought the change of heart.

Good on em all. Smiler And all those who wrote letters and saw their local member.

My member says "so were talking guns today" when I walk in his office Cool

GBB,
The blow torch needs to be kept on the Dept of Justice. Finish the letter writing ... please!!! The actual closing date is 17th March ... I dont trust any Govt to hold any promises, particularly if they aren't buried under a pile of letters proving the level of concern.
Cheers...

Guys,
I was asked to post this as a clarification.

"The Combined Firearms Council of Victoria advises that no deal has been done. Any suggestion that a deal has been done is manifestly incorrect.

There was a meeting of the Firearms Consultative Committee this week (of which the SSAA is one of a number of shooting organisations represented on it) where the idea was proposed, but that's as far as the matter has gone.

As far as the government is concerned, the proposed fees put out by the Dept of Just remain as is, but it is inviting comments. The FCC will be meeting again soon to discuss this further.

It is not at all helpful to suggest that deals have been done where there are legal process underway. People wanting updates on what is happening should speak with their FCC rep or keep an eye on the CFCV website at www.cfcv.org.au"

Personally, I'm still writing in response to the proposed changes as I dont believe anything has been set in stone.
Cheers...
