Far Canal,

brass from the 9.3x62 is availble and plentiful from Grafs and and it can also be made using necked up 30/06 brass but I prefer proper head stamped stuff. I use lapua brass and it is first rate. Speer 270 gr bullets are well priced and we have the best bullets in the world; woodleigh's made right here and ranging in weights from 250 gr through to 320 gr. I have been using the speer 270 gr bullets and they work great on grassy's getting full pentration on large males after smashing through spine and heavy bone. The 9.3's velocity ensures bullet integrity. The 320 gr woodleigh would be a great penetrator on scrub bull & buff and infact has proven so with some of the African crowd.

I think Rebel have a cz 550 lux 9.3x62 for sale new for $1090AUS. This is the rifle I use and it is so nice. Holds five in the mag, has a 3 pos side mounted safety decent turkish walnut and has double cross bolts and a barrel recoil lug as well all for $1100 (what I paid). Also has a set trigger so when pushed forwards it has a hair trigger. Rifle shoots great to boot. I orginally had a plastic floorplate & follower but I swapped that out for steel parts. CZ made a brief run of rifles with these plastic parts but got so many complaints they reverted to steel and offered a swap out for plastic parts, occasionaly the odd plastic parted rifle pops up. I have a leupold 2-7x33 mounted in warne fixed rings on it, I would have preffered a 1-4 or 2.5x comapct but it's what I had lying around. The 9.3x62 has a little more poke than the .35 whelen and I reckon has a little more charm to boot.

Grafs service is also first rate if you need to get components, they have 9.3x62 brass on special for $32US per 100 our dollar is good at the moment so it makes it very reasonable !!

Can a 30-06 case be improved and necked up to .416 or458 cal with a tiny shoulder? I suppose someone has done it already.

Cheers PC,that's great info.I'm on holidays so down the road to those pirates at Rebel I will go.
Sounds like good value for the money.
Those metric calibers just sound so,well...foreign.
I've never given them much thought before.

CR 500 yeah it has been done a .400 whelen but I personally think the 06 case lacks the capacity to really be effective for a bullet that heavy. But no doubt it has a following with some.

Glad to help !!,

hope you snag that 9.3 cz you will love it

One calibre that has some following and that has been made into a factory round (I think)is the 338/06. Check these out.
