The forum has been very slow so another post to see what happens. Feral pigeon are everywhere here. A bloke I taught 25 years ago asked me if I'd shoot the pigeons above his factory one day if he supplied the ammo. so I said yes. Surprise. Drew and I shot nearly 250 in two hours the first day with rat shot. Asd fast as you could reload, just keep on shooting. So we went back for about ten more days spread over a few weeks and I just got sick of the killing. as fast as you could reload, another pigeon was there to shoot. The numbers just kept building up but it wasn't fun. And finally after about two months, son sad he had enough of the ceiling of the factory and didn't want to keep on shooting them. And I was the same. The owner gave us a key to his factory and said to keep at it when we felt like it. Funny, its months now but we just cannot go back to it. Rat shot is amazing stuff, at times. After firing hundreds of rounds, it really is amazing how far away some birds will get hit at. But it was the case of getting sick of killing too many close ones. Son was using one of our lever action .22's, me an old single shot Remington. The factory building has been there since 1920 and the pigeon poo is up to ten foot high in places. It has caused some parts of the roof to colllapse. They nest just under the galvanized iron and have been doing so since the factory was first eastablished as a freezer works for sheep in 1924 (I think). Imagine having a factory with about 100 tons of pigeon postings above your workers.

I have been asked several times to shoot pigeons in larger wineries, but don't have an air rifle. Something I must fix soon. Then I will put out some business cards .... NitroX, PH (Pigeon Hunter of course! ) I used to shoot them with a Lithgow single shot .22 with sparrow shot in my own sheds. It does not damage the sheds. The wineries don't want shot "flying around" however. .

Our local cabinet builder bought the old freezer works for a very reasonable price. It is three stories high with each floor being about 10" of concrete. so the top two floors aren't used. Then there is the roof and the pigeons can get in anywhere and they do by the hundreds. Son said it wasn't the killing but being under the roof that really gets to him. The stink of tons of accumulated fertilizer from 80 years of feral pigeons. Plus it is very gloomy and stinking hot on a warm day. Hunting is meant to be fun.
