What ever style you choose - remember YOU have to carry it so a benchrest shooter might not be a good idea.

they told me 99% of the shooting will be right from the truck.

700,
Most in Australia would refer to what you will be doing as "shooting" not hunting . We do plenty of it because we have large numbers of feral animals . Only an outfitter would call it "hunting" .
Anyway , the fact that you're shooting from the back of a Landcruiser doesn't necessitate a heavy barrel . The ranges are unlikely to be that long that a sporter will be a disadvantage . Take a bipod though . Would suggest a scope of about 3 - 10 power . Not a bad idea to take a spare .
If the shooting gets fast then some animals will be wounded and will need following up on foot . The last thing you want to be carrying in tropical Northern Territory heat is a heavy barrelled rifle . You will note the type of country that you are likely to encounter in the photo I posted in your other thread . It's one thing shooting running game from 150 metres or closer in this type of country and another thing trying to do it from 300 . If your guide is seriously trying to reduce donkey numbers he will get you in reasonably close before the shooting starts . 150 metres seemed to work for us . Much closer and they started to get stirred up .
If the country is anything like that in which I hunted in 2005 (bottom of Arnhem land) you'll shoot more by getting off the vehicle when game is sighted . It's a hell of a lot more satisfying too.

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

700 ,
No I hunted with Glenn Giffin . Matt and I have exchanged emails about the possibility of a future hunt but I'm mainly interested in pigs and haven't committed to anything yet .
We used donkeys as pig bait in 2005 and weren't there specifically to cull them .

Blaser LRS2 in 308. Perfect. 5 shot magazines.
If you can find an older LRS1, it has 10 ropund magazines.
The Sako TRG-22 short barrel comes with 10 round mags.
The Steyr Scout or SBS can be set up for 10 round mags.

I have one of each of the above rifles. Out of those I think you would be happiest with the Scout rifle. You can use a regular style scope on it if you wish. A 4x or 1.5-5x would be best. I like the 2.75x Scout scope on mine. Very fast and handy. Also there is a nice big knob on the bolt. Very fast to work in the heat of the action.

Somebody mentioned a SMLE in 303. If you got one converted to 308, or could get some 303 ammo, that would be a good way to go. The SMLE bolt is very fast to work. With a pile of stripper clips you could put a lot of donkies on the ground pretty damn fast.

That Ruger you were looking at would be fine as well. I have a tang safety Ruger in 308 with a medium heavy 21" Lilja barrel I put on it. It would be steady to aim, and handy to move around the back of the truck at the same time. You would be cursing that HTR rifle pretty quickly.

There are some guys from Boise that go down there for cull shooting almost every year. They prefer Scouts first, and any rugged and handy sporter second.

As one gent put it, "It ain't as fun as shooting terrorist scum in Somalia, but the girls in Sydney have the Mombasa beauties beat hands down." (Well, he actually said wogs, but I figured that would get the PC monitors' panties twisted tight.)
