The main problem with the large mags is that the steel is too soft and the feed lips spread! They do work better with the full length cartridges such as the 30/06 compared to .308. There is often opportunity on pigs to exceed the standard mag capacity. I have a Browning pump modified to hold 5+1 and I ran it dry a couple of times a few weeks ago with pigs going past - very frustrating.

The pump is the best available [with our current laws]solution to speed shooting. We did a few tests years ago with PACT Timer and found that average time between aimed shots at 6" circle at 25m was .7 sec. The same exercise with a lever gun was just over a second with a bolt action running way behind that. A ported .308 semi auto would be in the region of .4 sec but we are no longer trusted with these! These rifles all utilized red dot sights which are the best for speed work without a doubt. A 5 minute dot will also still allow a degree of precision work BTW.
