If there are any forum members who want to give their big game rifles a workout, the next BGR shoot at Windemere Range (Mudgee) will be on the 15th of November (which just happens to be "Steve Irwin Day"!).

We are going to be trying to come up with some new and novel events to shoot to try and build up BGR in NSW. So, why not come along and blow some of the cobwebs out of those big rifles of yours?

The catch-call for Steve Irwin Day is 'wear something khaki'. We will be using some Bianchi Cup style targets which are khaki coloured so our catch-call for the 15th of November will be "Shoot something khaki".

Hope you have a sucessfull day with lots of powder burned, new DGR's seen and experienced, and aquantainces who become friends.
I attempted to have a shoot here (in NZ , Africa Rifle Association) but the response was dismal.

Von Gruff

Add me to your list, I'm always keen for a shoot.
and I think there are a few more bigbore boys in Churchtown who may be keen for a fun shoot, not sure about a fully regulated competition type shoot.

Cheers

Top Predator has the 375 and the 470 so even if it's just him that shows up, it should be a fun time.

Mark,

We have events that include almost any calibre:

The Pot Rifle event can be shot with a .22 and the Light Nitro event can be shot with anything from 6mm and up.

However, we are also looking at putting together some new fun events and the minimum calibre will be 6mm.

There will be events for rifles in the Nitro Group 1 class (Minimum calibre .330", minimum bullet weight 165gn and minimum ME 2,900ft/lbs).

...and Nitro Group 2 class (minimum calibre .400", minimum bullet weight 400gn, minimum ME 3,900ft/lb).

Unless there are some Group 3 guns present (minimum calibre .485", minimum bullet weight 525gn, minimum ME 5,300ft/lb) then we are not planning on holding any Group 3 events.

The new fun events, and I should make mention that these events are outside the approved National Rules and would never be contested at a State Titles or National Titles, are designed to allow as many shooters to compete as possible. Accordingly, these fun shoots will be designed around common calibres and the only restrictions that we will adhere to is that the rifle must be a true HUNTING rifle - no target/varmint rifles.

BGR National Rules impose scoring penalties on scoped rifles and try to discourage the use of scoped rifles. Our fun shoots will allow scoped rifles but ONLY in the lower, hunting power ranges - no target/varmint scopes will be permitted or may be permitted but with scoring penalties for the use of such scopes.

BwanaBob,
Regarding fun events ... and very challenging ... at the AHN Big Bore shoot I devised a team shoot (pairs) where both shooters fired onto the same target at 75, 50, 25 yards using the BGRC regular target.

6 shots each shooter, 2 shots each on each target in 25seconds wroking from 75 to 25 yards. Kind of a modified Charging Animal. Difficulty was that all needed to be in a scoring ring (or DSQ) and the 4 final shots at 25 had to be within the red score zone (5 ring from memory) or its was a 'Killed by buffalo'.

Next year we're hoping to have a 'Running moose' operational. Most fun is from reactive targets (but messy) ... eg x3 2L milk cartons at 45 yards ... clear them all ... fastest wins. Or bowling pins ... they're real fun to shoot!!
Cheers...
