Hello Guys I'm keen on importing a rifle from the states but the cost for one rifle just kills it. However maybe there is another way. Heres how I see it working: - we find a friendly FFL that will hold our purchases either from him or via Guns America/Gunbroker etc. and who will properly pack them for export - once we have the agreed number (at least 4 required in my opinion) we get our FFL to send them to an exporter (someone like Simpsons) who does the paperwork and charges us a fortune $200 US plus $30 for each rifle more than 4 and shipping This method would lower the average cost per rifle from US$200 plus packing plus freight to US$50 plus plus. It would still have a signifigant level of risk in terms of buying unseen and generally having to trust a whole lot of people down the chain. If you are interested or have other ideas let me know. Foster,Brownells will ship their Ruger barrelled actions for, I believe $20 so long as the paperwork from the destination country is available. Having said that, I lust after a Browning Low wall in 260 Rem. and the Oz distributor doesnt have records of whether any came here. Put me down as interested. At worst it would mean a trip to NZ to collect it and that wouldn't be all bad! Regards,Garry

Hello Garry Funy enough, its a Low Wall I'm after too, I want an action so was looking at anything, you might struggle to get a 260, apparently these and the 243's are like Hens Teeth, with those who have one not letting it go. Two of us here are also investigating Uberti Low Wall actions, if anthing comes of that angle I'll post it up. Cheers

Garry, I don't want to nix your idea, but getting the rifle from NZ to Australia is not going to be as easy as just jumping on a plane to collect it. I have no idea what it would take to get it out of NZ legally, but you'll still have to go through the Australian import procedures. Customs will not let you walk out of the airport with a firearm unless you can produce the B709A from the Firearms Registry. The Registry will not issue you the permit unless the rifle is already registered to you. The rifle will need to be imported by a firearms dealer. Customs will also require that it be test fired etc before it gets to the dealer. All in all it's not impossible to do, but going via NZ to get a firearm from the US doesn't look very efficient to me. Good luck with your plans. - stu

STU what you can do is just ring the registry up and tell them that you have just found another rifle that you have that is not registered and get them to put it on there books ...they are more than happy to oblige...and a week or two later you get a certificate of registration then before one goes to N Z to pick ones rifle up just gey your import permit from the registry office and your home and hosed...i know !!! regards daniel
