Count me in! Are we all going to phone George separately or should we put together an Aussie AR trip? "White men with their ridiculous civilization lie far from me. No longer need I be a slave to money" (W.D.M Bell) www.cybersafaris.com.au

Seriously ...... Fly up, cheaper than driving with fuel prices. Hire a 4WD, then away we go. I know of a great pig hunting place too, with lots of pigs.

John, What do you reckon - sounds like a go to me but we will soon be running out of dry season so there is not a lot of time to do something for this year. Anyone rung George, yet? I meant to last night but unexpected guests put paid to that idea. "White men with their ridiculous civilization lie far from me. G'day, George rang me back, here's the deal. $150 per critter, all NON trophy cows, minimum of 5 critters per person, to make it viable for him. Daily rate is $150, unless you want to provide your own 4x4 and swag it on the ground, in which case no daily rate charged. Barring accidents, I'm going. Anyone else interested? Cheers, Dave. lm interested , does antone know how far the property is from Darwin , last time l went buff hunting in the late 90s we had to fly from Darwin to Katherine and it cost us about seven hundred bucks , a bit steep l thought.l just checked the price on airfares from Melbourne to Darwin and their about nine hundred , quite reasonable , so anyone interested could have a five buff hunt for under two and a half thousand dollars , thats got to be pretty hard to beat !

Hi fellows ! I will ring this George bloke tomorrow and I will suss out where there is a fine print there. For that price there must be a fine print since the buffalo is worth min AUD 1.00 for the meat on hoof at the meatworks and an average buff weights about 500 kg. I do not believe it is a Government driven & subsided operation. Nobody in his right mind is to drive you around country side for AUD 150 a day only and fork out money for groceries, accommodation, fuel, vehicle wear and tear, insurance, outfitter's license and his own wages unless he is mad as a cut snake ! I will call him tomorrow and if all adds up, I am the first one to go ! Just wait for my report in a day or two, do not book your flights yet ! Les Terra Incognita Guides, Oz

Hi fellows ! I have connected with George today. All adds up. I know his station very well since I was involved in selling & purchasing this property some time ago in the past 4 months and I know who this George is. He is a Kiwi who recently purchased the property. It is some 300 km north west of Katherine. George wants to get rid of bad genetic stuff asap before the 2005/6 Wet starts. More hunters/shooters before that, the better for him ! The deal is as follows - come to his property and cull as many as you like, 5 buffalo cows per person at the one sitting minimum. We are culling buffalo cows here, not bulls ! George wants to get rid of the bad genetics before he opens up a proper safari hunting next year when he will start charging safari prices - he expects next year he will have bulls in order of 85 - 100 SCI, but then there will be no culling those next year !George wants shooters to come and shoot undesirables instead of calling musterers to round up those cows and truck them to the meat works - he does not have the time left to do that before the Wet settles in. It is not trophy huting, it is a culling brigade job ! The conditions are as follows: You will have to shoot min 5 cows per person at AUD 150 each. It should take you two days to shoot that many. George will cart you around with his station ute for AUD 150 a day. No accommodation to speak of, own swag, own rifle, campfire own meals and own grog. Fair dinkum rough stuff, an adventure cull hunt of the Past Era. Make it to Darwin, I mean fly there and then we all can hire a 4 WD there and go to his place. Thwe more of us on this jaunt, the lower share of the expenses like to hire the car in Darwin, fuel, groceries and grog. An airstrip at George's place is not up to scratch at the moment, the strip is overgrown with termite mounds all over the place.Financial terms - 5 buffalo cows to be shot by each person, 5 cows @ AUD 150 = AUD 750 plus say 2 days of George's services with his vehicle add another AUD 300 per person, all up is AUD 1050 - actually the cheapest ever hunt for a water buff in Oz I say - and YOU HAVE TO KILL 5 MINIMUM ! Bwana Bob and myself we are going. Bwana will have a Merkel d/r 375, I will be carrying 303 with 215 grains Woodleighs and some Mk 7 spitzwers. Any one of you locals want to join - I will be working out logistics and airfares prices tommorrow morning - call me in the afternoon on 0419 016 852 when I will know more on this battle front. I am to call George in the evening tomorrow to tell him how many are coming and when. Non Australian residents - if you guys want to join us, come to Darwin as our guests. Abandon all hopes of bringing your own firesticks of any kind on this occassion since George did not secure his NT corporate license yet, therefore we will not be able to secure you appropriate B709A and REGP forms - just come here as observers and we will lend you our firing sticks if you will feel like pulling a trigger on those cows ! Next year all will be nice and sweet from the legal point of view, but George's prices will be much higher then ! The wholke trick is to arrive to Darwinin the firstplace, arriving to Sydney or Brisbane or Melbourne is a headache since you are to make your way to Darwin from those destinations/gateways anyway - it sometimes takes a day or two to shift yourself from Sydney to Darwin ! Fly via Singapore, there is a daily connection between Singapore and Darwin. We are to hire a 4WD in Darwin, a wagon I suppose and we are to drive it all the way to the station. The road from Katherine to the station is rough as Georgwe trold me today but I can manage it. If you need more info, just write to me on lesterra@ozemail.com.au cause I visit AR site once a week only ! Bwana Bob and myself we are definetely going therein a couple of weeks ! Cheers Les

Awk ... I can't make my darn phone work... I'd love to talk to George. (I'll keep trying but it just makes funny sounds ..)I can't make it until next July/August though .. but I would dearly love a hunt like Les describes. I wonder what it would cost in 2006 ???

Hah ! I just got through and talked to a lady there. (I was trying to use 08 for an area code and then I remembered that in some countries one might drop the 0 - I did and suddenly became very smart.) Frans, this sounds like a fantastic deal. The station is 380,000 acres. Not square feet !! Acres !! And the northern part is up against Aboriginal land with a non ending stream of feral animals wandering through .. From buffs to brumbies to pigs etc.. George is going to get back to me but I (if the damn creek don't rise) am 99.7% positive that I'm going there next July. Be there for a couple of weeks (actually I also want to whack a camel but Les might have to help me on that one as they are very far away from there !).. and then make my way back to my little camp in Namibia. All this should give my travel agent a migraine. I wonder if any Canucks might be interested in going too .. ?? Of course, as Les said, the trophy hunting will undoubtedly be much higher next year, but I would much rather shoot five or more cows than one $2,000 bull. Something about a school teacher's salary ...

Hi Gents When calling George in NT dial - first the number to overseas destinations whatever it is in your home country - is it o11 or something ? Then dial 61 8 8975 4252.Best chances to catch up with local farmers is always 9 pm their time. That translates into 5 am Alberta time. George would not mind culling donkeys, donkeys are always there to cull, but George will drive you first into killing as many buff cows as possible - this is his main aim ! Pigs are always there in numbers. And dingo. However, knowing this station realities this will be drive by shooting off the vehicle in most cases. Yes, the station is of huge size and it is true it borders black fellas country - a reservoir of feral animals and there is no fence between George's place and blak fellas land for reason !The drawback is that there is no good accommodation to speak of, but at the main station buildings there is always shower and toilet. However, the weather will be good till the end of October. I am toying with an idea of taking my Toyota HJ 47 up there - first my guns are in Qld and I need to pick up a couple of those from there, secondly, my truck can sleep up to four if there is no accommodation and people do not have their own swags. Bwana Bob and myself we intend to do some filming of this operation - it should be a first time film on buff hunts in Oz - usually film makers are not keen to do that because of the costs of the normal operation is somewhat prohibitive to them. When I spoke to George last night, he mentioned something that after 1 October he should have his corporate license therefore foreigners will be able to obtain import permits for their guns. However, it takes a min 3 weeks to go through that rigmarole, I will have to ask George if he can organise some guns if foreigners are coming, he probably will. This George place is just in the middle of the best area for buffs in Oz, they all breed right north from his place Next year, when George will start operating commercially, I expect his safari prices to be min AUD 5 - 6000 including trophy fees for one buff and say two boars and donkeys should be free.If here will be any less than that, there will be cutting corners somewhere in guiding, accommodation or meals departments. To Frans, this is exactly the station where Anton was hunting his buffalo few years ago ! To scruffy, I got your photos from Namibia, I have send you my reply yesterday. Anyway, I reckon this is a very good and very cheap opportunity to get yourselves a water buffs if you are not mad trophy collectors ! If I will be driving with Bwana all the way up from Sydney and if anybody wants to join, you can either hop on the deck of my vehicle or arrive to Darwin, take a bus/coach from Darwin to Katherine (AUD 80 one way, two services daily) and I will pick youse up from there. I am thinking about mid October to go there.so if anybody wants to join the culling/filming team, I want to hear from you asap - I need more people to share fuel expenses ! My truck will be a base camp and George will drive us around the place with his ute Cheers Les from Oz

Sounds good. Ive had a chat with Les about it. If I can get enough time off work ,I,m in . Les says he would like to get some buff with a 303. I,m sort of thinking of taking up my 58 Cal muzzle loader as well as the 458 Lott. They might not be real trophies ,but will still be interesting with a muzzle loader. Sympathy please ,I have champagne tastes and beer budget

For those of you who can't make it on this trip but like the sound of culling management cows at reasonable prices I'd suggest you talk to Glenn Giffin on 0412 308338 . Glenn offers 5 day , 2 on 1 hunts in a tented camp at around $1475 plus $200 per cow . No other costs to factor in either . Bulls of all standards available too at higher cost . The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.
