Guys, I heard QLD weapons licencing is leading the charge towards new "nothing over 30 cal" bans.Currently dragging out or outright refusing permits for some long range and bigbore calibres( 338 lap,416 barrett, 408,etc and apparently 50cal+ elephant guns too) Not that I'm personally effected having permanently immigrated to 3rd world shitholes, but are these disturbing rumours true? Karl.

Karl, Probably not true ... but the 50cal derivatives (and 338Lapua and 5.7x28) are taking a hammering. The 'nothing over 30cal' brigade I believe is being led by WA who want to argue that given that a 308Win is approved for Govt culling of all big game animals ... its adequate for everything. Vic mandates a 270Win minimum for Sambar so there is plenty of room for hunters to move between 270Win and 308Win. I am aware of one hunter that was asked to justify a 358Win in Qld, SA has effectively banned (no its not a ban officially ... but there are no apropriate ranges with adequate templates and no animal that requires such calibres hence no justification to posess) all 50BMG derivates and 338Lapua. More can be found on the SA SSAA website under the news section. I'm also led to believe that SAPOL may have indicated that if they take too much heat regarding their 'not a ban' they may consider a residual energy formula that would be more restrictive. Just goes to show what happens when beuracrats watch too much You Tube. Cheers... Con

Con,tank, thanks for the heads up. As to the rumours this was from mates working in QLD gunstores, who normally hear this all the time, but this has them worried. Hamish, no its not anymore. However in defence of my former homeland will say it did okay compared to major Euro countries with 2-3 times the population -who have lost a lot more guns. The international lobbying crew and just the US anti-groups themselves are a handful given AUS only has 20 million population to beat. NZ's luck is indeed luck in that the big players have not got around to you yet. From where I am sitting the average NZ gunowner is no different from Aus, both generally talk a good fight but lazy as fucking shit politically when it comes to the crunch. Karl.

Karl. we have COLFO (coalition of licenced firearms owners) who have put in an enormous amount of work politacally and have had an influence when law changes were on the table. They argue fact against the "feelings" offered by the anti's. So far fact has been the winner. Von Gruff.

Karl, It's really not much different anywhere in the world. A very small percentage of gunnies carry the load for the majority of lazy fucking gun owners. "Oh no, its okay ... I don't shoot a 50BMG derivative or a 338Lapua ... I'm a skeet shooter. This wont affect me at all" It's that thinking we can do without. Cheers... Con

Gruff, Fact and feeling discussions means things are still nice guy level. When the 1996 gunlaws came in australia it wasn't just a few round table meetings with one bunch of landowners/shooters sitting across from a bunch of aussie politicians seeing who could debate the best etc Real lobbying is what happened-Political war at every level with serious international financial backing. The yank anti-gun lobbies even flew their top guys in to organise with our idiots. Everything from political advisors ,lawyers, to activists(basically thugs doing all sort of bad shit-power cuts, threats, bribes, defaming-impersonating political recruiters going door to door pretending to be drunk to lose votes for certain politicians) businesses ganging up, you name it,and BIG money behind it all. The average gunowner is shocked this goes on since once again he does not get involved. But none of it is suprising to anyone in the pro or anti lobbying world. next effect is inline with what Con says not only does the skeet shooter say "who cares about 338 laps" but when his back is to the wall(or he recieves substantial compensation..) he ends up taking an active stance against 338 lapua to save his own sport, and this does even more damage than the anti's. When it comes it won't be NZ shooters debating facts with a few public servants. It will likely be against professionals who wrote the book on how to win lobby's in countries 50 times bigger than yours. Karl.

You are right Karl, New Zealand firearms owners have seen what has happened in England and Australia, but that won't happen here is the view by most. "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Sir Winston Churchill

OK, so educate me. What in heck is the motive behind the anti-gun lobby? I can understand the crim's not liking their intended victoms to be armed but surely the main focus of organized crime nowdays is internet fraud? Hell, I have won over three million pounds in just the last three weeks and all I have to do is give them all my personal details (so's they can create a false idendity or cream my very empty bank account! Or pre-pay the tax). Regards 303Guy

The motive behind the Anti Gun Lobby is ultimately the United Nations ,which has the Global Agenda [21] for ''The complete and general disarmament of people and nations ''i think that s how its worded,[something like that] in the UN charter .Out the front of the UN you will see a Smith and Wesson handgun with its barrel tied in a knot .Their ultimate goal is taking place through traitorous politicians ,unconstitutional treaties[with the UN] ,Fabian Socialist tactics etc, and if the time line is behind........ ''Setups'' like Port Arthur take place[to speed things up] .National Armies will be abolished, and replaced by UN troops stationed in every country ,not to fight other countries ,but to keep the public under the thumb .Ultimately they want a worldwide socialist dictatorship ruled by the UN, where you have no rights ,apart from doing what your told or else .How long this will take to achieve is anyone s guess .they don t care about you ,your rights ,your job ,your family, your life ,your house, property etc .They are just HELL BENT on implementing this nightmare, and don t care what it costs in human lives ,property, jobs etc .Once the guns are all gone ,they can do ANYTHING..... they want to you ,and you cant do a thing to stop them ,which is just what they want ,which is why they want to get rid of guns.

What's more ... gun-control is a 'can-do' thing for politicians... a bit like making new laws to stop pedestrians being stittled or new laws to fine more speeding motorists...UNLIKE the things that they 'cant dont' - like fix roads and catching and gaoling criminals and such.. "Oh I do not shoot a semi auto or a pump action shotty". We do not need Tafe courses for gunsmithing. It's a bugger to see that type of attitude still going around Regards, Bob.

At one stage I was trying to collect information to show 308 is inadequate for aerial culling. To stop this ban coming into place after being roundly abused and people telling others not to help me I gave up in disgust with the shooting community and now we are starting to pay the price

Yeah well that is still the wrong way to go about it... Helicopter culling is inadequate not 308 calibre... there's no point BS'ing the authorities on such things as calibres adequecy.. it will bite us on the arse. 308 is an adequate from the air is certainly inadequate on the ground. Using wounding rates to argue for a bigger calibre get other people to do out fighting for us.

inadequate on the ground?? depends what you are culling. If you are talking buffalo.. yeah... talking horse/donkey sized critters...no, perfectly adequate with the right ammo. I can make that statement with some authority... Dont create a 'problem' that doesnt exist...
