I am scheduled for a tahr and chamois hunt in NZ next june. I pretend to use a Blaser K95 in cal 30R Blaser , with a handload of 168 grs Combined Technologies(Nosler/Winchester) Ballistic Silvertip giving 2.900 fps. These CT bullets have proved to wistand better with less fragmentation than the Nos. Ballistic Tip. Will it be O.K. For the task? I have seen tahr pelts and they are very thick. Or would it be better a Nosler Partition? I only have in stock NPs in 180grs and my rifle likes better the Bal Tips and CT Silvertips.
Thank you.
Pulki.

They will be fine. Plenty of Tahr shot with ballistic tips each year.

The projectiles you are using are fine - better a properly placed shot with a ballistic tip than a poorly placed other projectile.

My 7x61 with 160gr Sierra boat-tails at 3000fps always did everything asked of it on chamois, tahr, deer and goats, close in or a damn long way off.
Consistent accuracy (especially with that first cold barrel shot) and placing the bullet where it counts is the important factor.

Your handload sounds fine.

Thanks for the inputs.
I will start reloading the 168 grs Silvertips and shooting
to test accuracy from 50 to 300 mts with a cold barrel.
As always valuable info in this forum..

pulki,

I would shoot some of the handloads into wet news paper, phone books or such to see what they behave like. I have a 270 Winchester that loves the silvertips but I have had them blow up on bones if the velocity is fast. I have read that in the larger calibers they have beefed them up but they sure aren't tough in the 25-06 and the 270.
