Does anyone have a R licence ? I'm curious as to what it involved, as I'll be going for mine in the near future.

G'Day Rob
Firstly you will have to be a member of the SSAA, there are specific clubs that are designated examiners for R licenseing, the test will cover centrefire, muzzle loaders, dogs and bows, you can opt to do all or only specific ares you wish to apply for, A bit of advice is to do the exam for all four as i does not cost you any extra, mostly they are open book exams but will still have to be read carefully, most answers are common sense.
Booking a hunt is a piece of cake , all done on line, they will issue you with a security/pin number that is used to book your hunt after the hunt a return form must be sent back prior to your next booked hunt.
Its a great concept.!!

Damien Webb.

Rob,

Have a look on the Game Council website which lists the Approved Hunting Organisations that you may belong to, if any and go from there. You don't necassarily have to belong to SSAA.

G'day robz, as tasso says, you don't have to be a member of SSAA, here's the link to the Gamecon NSW site, www.gamecouncil.nsw.gov.au hope you have fun hunting in places we couldn't last year!

Cheers, Dave.

robz, I did the course at SSAA St Marys. You will need to get the manual from the Game Council and study it before you do the exam. The exam is multi guess but you will still need to study or you wont have time to complete it and you need 100% to pass the compulsory section.

Well worth it as there are more state forests opening up every month.

Cheers

Scott, did the SSAA require you to do the H&C course first? I have heard that here in Vic, the SSAA will not sign off on your NSW Gamecon application until after you have done the H&C course. They will, it seems, also charge a fee to provide your accreditation form.
I knew our club was doing something wrong, we provide the 'open book' test free to club members. Hey, it doesn't cost the club anything to run them, all the materials are provided free by Gamecon NSW, the total expenditure of club resources is approx 1 hour of my time.
If that gets more people out hunting, and in places that they previously didn't have access to, then that's an hour well spent.

Cheers, Dave.

Dave, No didnt have to do the H&C course. Just buy the manual and pay $30 for the course. The basically equalled the exam. There was no tuition. And it was an open book exam but the examiner fairly ripped through it!

I'm moving to Albury soon so I'd be interested to see if the R licence is recognsied by the Vic Dept.

I agree. The more people we get activly involved in our sport the more leverage we have with the elected decison makers.

Cheers

Scott, no the 'R' licence is a NSW only thing, the Game Licence - Victoria is a bit different, although if you only want to hunt ferals, then the $11 'permit to hunt pest animals on crown land' is a one off purchase from the DSE at Wodonga, no test involved. If you want deer, then you will need a Game Licence.

Cheers, Dave.

Scott, walk into the local (Wodonga) branch of the DSE, apply for the 'Game Licence - Victoria (including deer)'. Pay for it. That's about it.
Try www.dse.vic.gov.au and follow the prompts.

Scott,

The "Authority to Hunt Feral Pests in State Forests" is not need if you already have Firearms licence. It is for people who are applying for their licence and need to justify their "Genuine Need" requirements. To hunt in State Forests in Victoria, in the case of feral animals, you only need a firearm licence(if using one). If hunting deer, you also need a Game Licence endorsement.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm a member of the SSAA.I don't have much free time at present to hunt, but I believe that we should embrace this opportunity and take up the license. It's a good way of getting the message across to the politicians that we are active.
if the takeup is poor the message will be that shooters are not worth considering.
