I am going to New Zealand (south island) from April 10 to the 1st of May hunting Red Stag, Chamois and Tahr. I have been reading these forms and the Sambar looks like an interesting animal to hunt. Is there any public land to hunt sambar on the south island or are they any sambar on the south island or New Zealand.

North Island only as far as I am aware.

There is no public land in the south island for Sambar,there maybe some on game parks,but i don't think so.There is public land in the north island,but most of it is hunting by ballot. If you really want a Sambar from New Zealand and don't have a lot of time using a outfitter will be your best bet.
