G'day All Found this site while lookin around, am really impressed with the wide array of info, excellent. Have just purchased my first centre fire (ruger k77vt 25/06),As most would know i have been very busy on the net finding all the info i can, chose this calibre for hunting goats & pigs in the mountains around home(cowra nsw Australia),but will use the gun for long range varmint work on rabbits, Am interested to know what is the lightest weight projectile i can purchase from factory till i get some reloading gear set up,will be mainly trying it out on the bunnies first, trigger set at 3lbs with bipod,tasco6-24x42 varmint fitted. What sort of accuracy could i expext from this gun(have shot many times before). Any coaching /info really appreciated. Put Another shrimp on the barby Big Native.

Dont know much about the rifle but I have the same scope as you on my 243. They are not bad for a budget scope and I have 3 of them total. The 25/06 has a lot of wallop, hope you aren't trying to get rabbits for the pan! Absolutely ideal for long shots on goats and pigs though.

Welcome to the forum, I am sure you will receive plenty of advice on this post. You might also want to post it under the big game hunting forum. Doug

Big native, If it were mine i'd get the trigger done a little lighter, but that's personal preference. You can get the winchester loading of 90gr open point expanding, they are ok for ferals, but you can't beat good handloads. It should grp under 1 inch if you find the right load and are up to it. For the money they are tops, i have one in 22/250, shoot.5 grps easily, may be better when i hold it still enough. cheers and good shooting. 338w

I have also had a VT in .22/250 and a very good shooter it was. Have been tossing up between another VT or the Ruger #1 Stainless/Laminated in .25/06. It is a great calibre. Not sure but Winchester may have an 85gr Ballistic Silvertip in their Supreme line. It would be a head shot proposition only if you want to find enough to eat.

Gidday, The 25-06 is a very accurate and effective cartridge, I have a tikka that shoots .5 groups with reloads. I use mine for Wallabies, chamois etc. If you do your part it is capable of 400 yd shots. I reload the hornady 75gn hollow point with 61gn 2213sc and the 100 gn nosler ballistic tip with 54.5 gn 2213sc. Both these loads are very accurate. Good luck with the new rifle! milosmate

G'day and welcome to the forum. 60 years ago the .303 was considered enough gun in Cowra. The 25/06 has a lot of fans, that's for sure.Must be something right with it. History lesson on Cowra.

Ahhh I spent many a summer waterskiing at Wyangla dam, caught some big trout there as well. The in-laws ended up buying a caravan there. Welcome to the forums BN.
