Mate every state is different - the answers will vary from yes, to no, to depends!! What do you want to do exactly? Where do you want to go and with who?? Most states require a visitor to get an OS visitors permit. A day spent in the bush is a day added to your life Hunt Australia - Website Hunt Australia - Facebook Hunt Australia - TV

In South Australia, last time I checked, it was no problem. A visitor even without a firearms licence can go hunting, borrowing a firearm as long as they are supervised by a firearms licensed adult. The cops even indicated they prefered this to the foreign visitor wanting to import their own firearms and get a temporary firearms licence etc. Obviously there are variations, eg if duck hunting, a duck hunting licence is required by the shooter, which is a different matter.

JH - I think SA is now pushing Visitors Permits, so something might have changed there?? I havent spoken to them for a couple of years but I heard it has changed a bit. A day spent in the bush is a day added to your life Hunt Australia - Website Hunt Australia - Facebook Hunt Australia - TV

No sweat in Victoria,I loan any of my rifles to visitors from the US to Europe to NZ,all they need is their temp visitors permit which is piss easy to get as long as you are licenced in your home country and dont have a dozen murders to your sheet. The majority of US citizens do not have a licence at home - in which case they get the Police Clearance thing signed or provide a criminal background check. A day spent in the bush is a day added to your life Hunt Australia - Website Hunt Australia - Facebook Hunt Australia - TV

Lucky... Vic-LSD can be a real bastard with those things..... On one more memorable occasion when I was discussing the problems for Chinese citizens to get that paperwork signed (no private ownership) ... LSD "... well if they arent allowed to use a firearm in their own country then they arent allowed to use one here" MG - "are you telling me that we trust them to come to our country (by way of visa, etc) but we dont trust them with a firearm, while supervised?" LSD - "..... (silence)......... no........" A day spent in the bush is a day added to your life Hunt Australia - Website Hunt Australia - Facebook Hunt Australia - TV

I did not know they are civilians.... NSW fAR are civilians too... they dont seem to have as many problems, as in Vic (in dealing with 'issues') but then again they do have significant political pressure on them in NSW. There are probably 2 sides to them being civilians OR coppers too.... you could always get the WA situation, if you are forced to deal with coppers.... ??? Part 3—Possession of firearms and dealing in firearms and ammunition Division 1—Possession and use of firearms 11—Possession and use of firearms (1) A person who has possession of a firearm without holding a firearms licence authorising possession of that firearm is guilty of an offence. (2) A person who has possession of a firearm, or who uses a firearm, for a purpose that is not authorised by a firearms licence held by that person is guilty of an offence. ... (6) For the purposes of this section— (a) a person who handles a firearm— (i) in the presence, and with the consent, of a person who is the owner of the firearm and who is authorised by or under this Act to have possession of it; or (ii) in the premises of a licensed dealer in firearms for the purpose of inspecting the firearm, does not have possession of the firearm; Now if the cops interpret this differently from what they did a couple of years ago (?), when the 2008 Legislation was already in force, no idea. But the above is what it says in the Act.

JH, that SS 6 permits handling of a firearm by an unlicensed person. It does not permit use. Sect 11, Subsection 4 in the SA Act permits unlicensed use, but only on specific facilities. These are listed as a shooting gallery, a commercial range or gun club grounds. Elsewhere in SA, a licence/firearm permit is required for use. Be it South Australian, or from another Australian State/Territory. Ref: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/l...t/fa1977102/s11.html Cheers, Doug
