Matt or any of you guys in the know... What is the status with hunting crocs in PNG? I hear you can legally hunt salties there. Is this true, or what does anyone know? Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com

OK - there is an outfitter there claiming they can do it but I believe it is the same outfitter who is doing the buff hunts - the one that had the major disaster there a couple years back where the client nearly died. It was a monumental clusterfuck.. if that tells you anything. I looked into it back then (2 years ago) and my reading of their legislation was that yes of course the hunting COULD possibly be done (under problem animal mitigation with the tribespeople) but the same as here, the difficulty is in obtaining the export permit. The law clearly specifies a 'slot limit' arrangement for exported crocodile products, no provision for hunting... that slot limit alone would make it pretty hard to run a safari hunt. So, unless the outfitter has got some law amendment or special dispensation - I dont see how they can do it and export?? I have some friends who have been looking into it very closely with that outfitter and I dont think they have come up with anything yet... they want to make sure it is 100% legal. I havent heard of anyone getting one out of PNG yet... I think they are still hunting the buffalo and rusa deer however - to some extent. Last time I looked into Rusa Deer in PNG I was quickly advised by one of the main reps that it was not a safe proposition at the moment.

I have been talking to Bruce Alexander about it, and have checked the guys who hunted with him on The HUnting Report. It all seems pretty good, and honestly, I don't even want to export. I was thinking 2 buff and a croc. I don't have room for them, I don't want the extra expense of bringing them home, etc. - BUT I do want to know it is all 100% legal... I dont see any hunting report on a crocodile hunt, nor the hunting report from the guy who nearly died... A day spent in the bush is a day added to your life Hunt Australia - Website Hunt Australia - Facebook Hunt Australia - TV

Sorry I'm uninformed on this issue guys but can you elaborate on the "unsafe at the moment" comment. I just met some folks from PNG last night and this caught my eye.
