We have a serious problem and I'm not too sure it can be fixed in the 6 days before we meet South Africa.

We just can't seem to win anything ATM.

Well I've got 3 Aussie lasse's staying with me right now. They are deffinatly better than sheep.
Heres a joke told to me by one of them after seeing this thread.

A Kiwi guy is showwing his Aussie mate round godzown when they spy a sheep with its head stuck in the fence. The Kiwi rushes over, drops his trou and has his way with it. After he's finished, he ask's "do you want a go?" to the Aussie.
The Aussie says "hell yeah!" walks over, drops his trou, and sticks his head in the fence.

Well the Aussies did well against SA.

What is it, we get thrashed by Samoa and then give SA a good touch up.

Let's hope this is the start of a long string of good performances.

I take it the North/South island thing is big in the rugby?

Are they all new ones, or are the Woofers from Byrons Bay still around? Say g'day for me, if they are.

Otago V Southland is very big as is , Canterbury V Otago, Auckland V Waikato, Waikato V Taranaki etc. Typical provincial rivalry between nighbours. Players seems to grow an extra arm and a leg during some of these games.

Not too dissimilar to State of Origin rivalry or English cricket battle of the Roses Yorkshire V Lancashire etc.

Thanks Craig, that sounds encouraging Smiler

Sorry John,
couldn't think what to say. The hunt was a bit of a washout, for me at least, as you may have heard.

We managed only three days in there out of the 10 planned, because of rain and clouds and forecasts crimping chopper access each end.

I bumped my scope on the way in and forgot to boresight it that night. Next day I missed a chamois at 120 yards, whipped the bolt out and discovered the Tikka was three inches out at 30 paces.

There were plenty of tahr way up, across the river, but getting to them was the problem. With all the rain the water was up to Mike's navel and would have been to my armpits, so I declined the challenge of crossing before dawn next morning. Just as well, though, because without needing to wait for me, Mike was able to go over, climb about 1400 metres, shoot two bulls and be back by lunchtime. I had gone to look for another 'shammy', but to no avail.

Hearing on the mountain radio that three more days of rain were coming, next day we went back to the high hut and called James in.

Anyway, back at the farm I shot a couple of pheasants and a big grey duck and had a good time eating and drinking with Mike's family and friends - and cleaning my boots.

I'm thinking of having another crack at the tahr next year, if I can organise a place that doesn't depend on the height of a river, even if it means camping in a cold tent.

Thanks again for your help and hospitality, Craig, it was great to see how things work in farming and alpine hunting.

Cheers
- Paul

Yes John,
and I'm making preparations. On spec we'll camp somewhere high and cold I've bought a Shellite stove to save the risk of sharing my sleeping bag with a dodgy gas cannister. Now to find somewhere to hunt.

Cheers

Yeah Matt, and they could show a few of the guys how to do things too. Both the original two can take out a 12 inch disc at 400 meters with the 375H&H and have each shot, gutted and carried home a 70lb pig. One lay on a muddy hillside in a torrential thunderstorm for 45 miniutes one evening, waiting for the wind to die enough to fire a shot. Finally it did and she took a nice young Fallow doe at 200 meters.
I've been very impressed. They both plan to sit their Aussie gun licence's when they get home.
