Back in February I posted in the Small Calibres Forum that I was contemplating a rebarrel of my Sako .243W

I decided to go ahead with this and sent the Sako to a Kiwi firm called True Flite that specialises in supply and installation of new / replacement barrels.

The work was completed in the last few days, I paid the bill and arrangements were made to send the Sako back. Usually this is / was done by a Courier company called Fastways. Anyway, Racheal at True Flite rang me yesterday in some distress. Fastways had collected my parcel then the same day returned it to True Flite saying they have temporarily suspended carriage of all firearms, and even individual barrels, until they pow-wow on the matter and decide what their new policy will be. An alternative Courier, NZ Couriers, would carry my parcel but, as of this week, will now only deliver to registered firearms outlets ( like retailers ) and no longer to private or business addresses. True Flite are exploring other options for me. I told them not to panic as the owner of the range where I would go ( private land ) to re-sight the Sako has temporariliy closed the facility until things ex Christchurch settle down.
To some extent this is symptomatic of the world these days but I do wonder if these Courier companies have really applied much intelligent thought here. Obviously they cannot discern the real issue and separate the good and responsible from the nutters. A sad state of affairs.

When it's returned I'll try posting before and after pics.
Have tried embedding pics here before but I cocked it up. Too "techy" for me... Mad

Yeah, range closure is frustrating.
The landowner is a good guy, a farmer, not a shooter.
I think my barrel is cheaper than a new T3. Also, I'm a lefty shooter.

Have been in contact today with TP.
We have a Plan B if my local range remains closed awhile.

Further to my original post above apparently more Courier companies are not transporting firearms now. It seems like a dominoes effect in a race of stupidity. My Sako is coming back tomorrow anyway but instead of delivery to my usual business address I have a 90 km round trip to Auckland to retake possession.

Yes - I just circumnavigated Mt Egmont to collect a .22 rifle that came from the sender via a private person , so I suspect private collection will be the norm for a while .

Shanks, that's a great offer and much appreciated. Hopefully the range up here opens again soon.

As it stands, I can’t even get stock stabilizer sent out of NZ, because the couriers dont even want to carry epoxy that mentions guns.

Being anti-gun is bad enough, now they’re anti-glue. Or maybe they’re all on glue.

I wouldn't say 'the world'.
it's just your little corner of it.

the last rifle I had re-barreled went by united states postal service both directions.
no paper work other than the money order [also from the post office] I mailed for the work performed.

How are your rules for mailing out of the state, or selling out of the state without a FFL? We mail long guns, handguns and black-guns all over the country without anything. NZ has unrestricted silencers. No country has a monopoly on dumb laws, or occasional advantages.

My new 10.3 barrel came in the mail last week (in Australia) I have wondered what the flow on will be (if) after the shootings.
It came from NSW to Victoria. NSW have to send dealer to dealer,in Victoria it is a steel pipe and can go freely to anyone. So much for "uniform" gun laws.

McDonalds seems to be a common theme with these AR meet ups. Are you sneakily plugging them for a nice McBackhander ?

It's a running joke among James' friends (all three of us), James will eat at McDonald's over any 4 star restaurant.

they are like y'all say weird.
I can drive to any neighboring state and anything is cash and carry.
mail is from individual to FFL, but face to face is trade gun for ??whatever.
parts and pieces except a completed receiver [partially completed are parts] is door to door.
primers and powder are to your door.

in my state any silencers we built ourselves at home before 2010 are non taxed and legal to own.
it's an odd mix of state and federal rules.

Our rules are federal; which does lead to uniformity.

Thats not all good though, when it was brought in many provinces fought it. We wouldn’t have half of the rules if it wasnt for tying to please what amounts to 3 cities out of the whole country.
