Hey fellas Im chasing some 8mm Rem Mag factory ammo preferably still in the original boxes. Any information leading to the purchase of the afore mentioned ammo would be greatly appreciated. Its rather thin on the ground round these parts. Thanks

I saw cases at what WAS my local about 3 years ago - I've never seen the loaded ammo. -- Promise me, when I die, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told I her I paid for them.

I doubt the cases have gone anywhere. If you can find a local to "show you how to reload", you could order them .... and get them stuffed. -- Promise me, when I die, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told I her I paid for them.

Thanks fellas. I already reload my own but was chasing the factory boxes so that I can travel with it. Most airlines insist that the ammo is in the original packaging.

Havent heard that before Gryphon. I have always used the factory boxes without any dramas but I will make some enquiries. I thought the issue was that the airlines dont allow reloaded ammo to be transported, hence the need for factory boxes. Thanks

crook MTM type cases are fine. I actually had that in writing from Qantas at one stage, either in an email or in the letter. BS re reloaded ammo, they wouldn't have a clue anyway. IATA regulations state 5kg max of ammo, not whether it is reloads or factory. What they don't want is loose ammo that is flying around the case or box you have it in. That is what causes them nightmares. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

Read "securely packed" from Qantas blurb..I have carried ammo in and out of Aus in MTM cases without a prob. More information What to take out, what to declare and what's okay Ammunition (cartridges for weapons), securely packaged Firearms may be carried as securely packed checked baggage. No operator approval is necessary. Ammunition may be carried as checked baggage provided operator approval has been given. No airline approval is required to carry firearms, however the item must be: unloaded declared at the time of check-in, and securely packaged. To allow the segregated carriage of firearms, passengers are permitted one additional piece of baggage within their total weight allowance at no charge. All firearms and ammunition must be carried in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the State, Territory or country you are travelling to, from or through. If travelling with firearms and/or ammunition to, from and through Singapore, you must submit an application of permit. If you are seeking approval to carry firearms or ammunition, please send the following details to dg@qantas.com.au. Name and Address Flight Details Firearms Licence number and expiry date Type of ammunition Return email, fax or postal address. The firearm must be declared at time of check-in, and it must be unloaded and securely packaged for check-in. Posts: 87 | Location: Victoria Australia | Registered: 07 September 2002

Crooknees, I think Qantas's blurb is "......in manufacturers containers or better". I do not have trouble carrying cartridges in MTM type containers. Contact the dangerous goods at qantas as per Gryphon's advice. You'll need their approval to carry ammo. I usually get it via email very promptly. You'll need to: 1) tell the check in desk that you have firearms and ammunition, 2) then give them the letter from Dangerous Goods. 3) Tell them that "the firing mechanism has been removed from the firearm and is in another bag, that you have less than 5kg of ammo and it is in better than manufacturer's containers and that there is no ammo in with the rifle." I always take two bags so that I can seperate the ammo & firing mechanism from the firearm........this keeps them very happy. Following this formula I have never had problems with carrying firearms and ammo.

Thanks fellas. All the years I have been travelling with firearms I have never had a problem. I always had the impression that the ammo had to be in the factory boxes though. Ive just learnt something. I have always used handloads by the way. I always lock it in a plastic pistol case and place it in my luggage. Interestingly though I travelled to Argentina recently and the domestic airline there insisted that the ammo case travelled separately from the check in luggage. So both the rifle case and ammo case had security tags placed on them. They were both individually checked by airport police before and after each flight. Im sure all the other info you provided above will be most helpfull to any would be international hunters reading this planning on an overseas hunt. Thanks again
