Where should a bloke go to get the best 4 x 4 Hilux for his son for under $9,000? 2.8 Deisal, a/c, p/s. Tray or tub. RWC. Way off topic. But son is driving me up the wall looking at cars? I was so glad to see the end of that 350 chev powered Landcruiser. But he still wants a 4 x 4

I'm in the same boat, driving myself up the wall looking at 4x4's.I don't know which way to turn, now that fuel prices has gone through the roof. Older Hilux's are a bit of a turn off for me because of the leaf springs on the front,I'm over rough riding vehicles. Mate has a '01 Courier diesel turbo double cab and gets 23mpg on the hiway.(Bris-T'ville) Still looking.... Regards,Shaun. Tried the Govt Surplus sales ? Most of those vehicles are well maintained and most 4x4's havent been off road much... Just a thought . ________________________ Old enough to know better

GBB, Trawl the Trading Post, make the early calls and go to Melbourne if needed to inspect. Dad and I did that and for a total of $6000 ended up with two Suzuki LWB's in RWC... and the LWB is not exactly a common model. One is totally original ($2000) and mine ($4000) is lifted and locked with the Suzuki GTi motor. Both drink at around 10L per 100km. Just keep looking and it'll show up eventually. Cheers... Tried the auctions but most were newer ex-government vehicles with 4o k on the clock and the Hilux's were around $20,000. Will try your idea, Con. Sounds like you got to great machines at a great price. But that will be on when the trading post comes out next. Son has his mind set on a Hilux but that's because most tray back 4 WDs around here are Toyota. We had a 92 dual cab for three years and it lacked go but was built to last. Spent some pleasant time away in it, particularly in the Flinders R. And around here. The Grampians 4WD tracks can give me a heart burn real easy. The Goat Tk was something I'll never forgot nor try again. I think if son actually saw many of the other makes that are available, he would easily change his mind.

Thinking of a GQ Patrol diesel, easy to find under $8000.The motors are bulletproof, used in UD trucks, four bolt bottom end. Most get to 500,000km if looked after. Regards,Shaun. Kids in the back seat cause accidents, accidents in the back seat cause kids.

Sounds about what I would expect to pay from a gov't auction for a good condition used 4WD Hilux. $8,000 sounds like a second hand 2WD Hilux price or one well past it.

Stay away from any Courier/Mazda bravo's (same thing) We use them at work and they are a heap of shite ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"
