... where are the rabbits?

Just got back from Tin Can Bay (Bloody froze). The hugs and kisses and I dumped the kids with the olds and went to Melany in the Mary Valley for a dirty weekend. We stayed at some cottages over looking some prime farming land and didn't see one rabbit! Not even as road kill. The owner of the cottage said they get the odd hare but thats all. I asked about foxes and she said in the 18 months she had been there she has never seen a fox!
I did see a fox on the road between Gympie and Tin Can Bay but that was the only one. All this area looks ideal for rabbits and foxes, so where are they? I sort of felt cheated, being in the country and not seeing a little bunny running around.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Dunno, but just north of Stanthorpe is THE rabbit fence, maybe they're all supposed to be south of it?

Here at Tenterfield (the home of rabbits) they seem very wary. Heaps of sign, otherwise you'd say there wearn't any. But at -9 deg. I'm not going out at night looking.

Most of Qld is rabbit free, thanks to the rabbit fence, thats why it is illegal to have a rabbit as a pet.

We have hairs but no rabbits.

There are patches of rabbits east and north of the RPF around the Injune area and eight years ago there were some around Mooney. The calici virus certainly cleaned them up in the late '80s and the drought has hindered their repopulation but farmers/graziers near Goondiwindi reckon they are slowly coming back.

Shooting is FUN, winning is MORE fun but shooting IS fun.

Mate, you were just a skip & jump from the little buggers.

The rabbit protection mob think most of Qld is rabbit free but I can tell you first hand that Kingaroy which is 400km north of the fence has fooking rabbits everywhere. I only have to drive one km from my place to get a feed and they are bloody beautifull no mixo or RCD (yet)

Good question Bakes - my mate has a bit of dirt ( 7000 acres ) at Miva north of Gympie and he has bugger all bunnies either.

I always thought it was cos the rabbits were seeking more stimulating conversation than was available in Qld , but maybe I'm wrong on that one too... pissers

Agree with you there MLG. A lot of new houses around mum and dads place. Fishing was/is crap as well. I took the boys out yabbie pumping then we fished the rising tid back in for a few undersize whiting. No flathead lies in the sand, no bream and no small bait fish like mullet around. I know its winter but there should of been more activity over the yabbie grounds. Its been like that every time I go down there summer or winter.
