Another thing you would want to consider with swags is,pulling out the heavy/bulky foam mattress and putting in a thermarest.Even a decentthickness thermarest reduces things noticably.

I am going to run a wool filled doona and blanket this Easter............have used this combo a few times before and it has always been warm, have run a sleeping bag as well at times but I reckon a doona is more comfy especially if you have a larger sway it more easily allows you take advantage of the bit of extra room as sl;eeping bags can constrict you a tad. If I take my small swag for an over nighter the sleeping bags good (very little room in my smaller swag).

I use an unzipped s/bag like a blanket, never had to zip it up even outside in heavy frosts, some of the boys use good doonas the same. Posts: 87 | Location: Victoria Australia | Registered: 07 September 2002

In colder weather I use a Roman Swag Bag which is great - no point in having a roomy swag with a small sleeping bag. The Swag Bag is 100cm wide x 200cm long and rated for 0ºC.

during the warmer months i just use a cheap sleeping bag which isnt real warm normally left unzipped in the middle of summer. For winter i have a roman 0.c bag and also a ex-army wool blanket thats folded in half and sown half way up that my sleeping bag fits into. some people may laugh at this but if youve ever found yourself in the victorian high country and have a unexpected foot of snow dumped on you over night its all more than welcome. but it doesnt seem to get real hot if it is a mild night too which is a bonus.

I reckon the unzipped sleeping bag makes for a good idea as you get the comfort (easy to move aroun in) advantage of a doona and the lighter weight of the sleeping bag, I may give that a go !!

PC, Place a singlebed fitted sheet over your swag's foam matress and unzip the sleeping bag and you may as well be home and in bed . That's my preference until it gets really cold, at which point the sleeping bag gets zipped up and a beanie goes on as well. The only modification I plan to my Allen swag is a thicker foam mattress for the extra comfort this year. Cheers... Con

I don't use my swag any more. I use a mozzie dome and my issue sleeping bag. The dome takes about 5 minutes to put up and keeps the little bitey buggers at bay. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin.
