MIKE375 A very interesting subject. Our trouble as shooters is we are all preaching to the converted. We get very little help from those people in positions of influence like the Americans do. For every anti gunner in the states, there is another pro gunner more than willing to speak up in defence of his/her right to own a firearm. I fear that here in the lucky country, the anti gun movement has been quite stealthy in their attempts to erode our rights as sporting/target shooters. There has been quite a lot of fanfare for those Australians who went to the Athens games & before that our own Sydney 2000 games, as shooters representing Australia. The anti gun movement has been careful not to criticise these individuals or their respective efforts & achievements. Oue respective federal & state governments also have been reasonably complimentary to the likes of Michael Diamond, Russel Mark, Susie Balogh etc & rightly so. I think this a further attempt by the anti gun government to get us all used to the fact it is OK to be an olympian & represent the country. But unless you are one of these elite sportsmen/women then you really have no need of a gun in society. Let`s face it, unless you are going to represent the country in shooting sports then you`re obviously intent on someday using your firearms for something unlawful. Brothers, the push is on & gaining momentum to take away what few firearms we have left. We must lobby our governments now. I had a discussion the other day with a fairly well educated female who was shocked when she learned that I was a shooter. She inquired why I would want to kill things & all those other questions we are confronted with in times like this. I took it all with a grain of salt. However she did get my dander up when she told me it was not my "right" to own a firearm, It was a "privilege" given me by the government of the day. As you would imagine, I was greatly impressed by this academics ideology on firearm ownership in Australia. The saddest fact of this story, is it`s true. We don`t have any rights as shooters, we are given the privilege to own firearms after we jump through the necessary hoops put in place by beaurocrats & academic fools who live in the cities & cite ideological crap whilst being creative & applying a lot of literary licence to the statistics on crime. It doesn`t matter, Liberal, Labour, Democrats, Greens. A vote for the major parties is a vote to continue the demise of our sport/hobby I take the attitude of, enjoy it while you can, but I try to explain what is happening to non shooters without being forceful or too fanatical. Maybe I`m being paranoid, I don`t know. My friends all know I`m a keen shooter & they don`t really care. But then they are just blue collar people like myself & not well educated enough to know what is best for themselves or their families. I heard a line once I know not where "Just because you`re not paranoid, doesn`t mean they`re not out to get you" Cheers Morton3

Quote: Funny, I was under the impression that Your nation and Our had EXACTLY the same start. Both places served 1st as a penal colony & place od banishment for the outcasts of Europe. Both had fronters to be concored. Both have grown through hard work of good people to become successful contributers tio a world market. Both have boar hunting, beer, football, beaches & woman in bikinis. Both of our nations have totally dismantled the King's english too....LOL

A politian's perception of the gun culture is rather 'closed eyed'; especially with their head jammed up their ass!

Kongoni Howard's perception of what the "American Gun Culture" is, is probably based on intensive research. Watching Arnold Schwarzenegger movies and being told what to think by his public service advisers. If you ask the average 'man on the street' who is against the "American Gun Culture", what is wrong? They answer "too many guns". They are very well informed and educated (sarcasm).

If our "gun Culture" (American's) was as bad as the rest of the world believes.....LOL...We would have killed ourselves off by now. I live near Chicago, believe it or not men in pin stripe suits ARE NOT driving around on the running boards of vintage sedans firing Tommy Guns. My brother lives in Texas and in the last 20 yrs. he hasn't seen one gunfigt at high noon on the main st.!!!! ROTFLMAO
