has anyone had any success or failure with partition gold projectiles, im thinking of trying the 160gr in my 7mmRM for sambar mainly but maybe the occasional pig goat or hog deer would this be to much bullet for the smaller stuff like goat and hog deer or will they expand quickly enough to do there job?

I have not used the "Gold" partition, but have used 150,160gr Partition in 7mmRM i have worked up a load for Thar and test them on goats all shots were under a hundred yards and where chest and neck shots,Chest shots exit hole would have been about inch, neck shots hit bone and pretty much took the head off. G'day, the 160gr should work fine on Sambar, for the smaller critters, the projectiles will do fine, but there are cheaper options. If you just want the one load to do it all (except buff, banteng and scrub bull) then the 160 Partition Gold is a good choice. I have used the 150gr .270win load on everything in OZ, except the bovines, with no complaints (except price!). The only problem I have encountered with the load is that winchester have discontinued it, in favour of the 140gr Accubond. I have a few boxes left from the orginal case I purchased, hopefully that will be enough to see me through the next few years deerstalking. Cheers, Dave. Non Illegitium Carborundum Cheers, Dave. 140 gr Partitions have worked well as an all-rounder (7mm) for me. Wapiti, Boar, Red Stag, Tahr, Chamois etc.) never been too light nor too much. I'm now switching to Barnes Triple Shocks, have a batch ready to testfire this week. Will let you know how they go. ...."At some point in every man's life he should own a Sako rifle and a John Deere tractor....it just doesn't get any better...."

Took a sambar stag earlier this year with a 150gr partition gold from my 300wsm, complete penetrtation front on shot angling through the rib cage, good expansion, stag dropped on the spot. Bullet of choice for me when you can find them, or the ever reliable corelok, but in 180gr. cheers cc

I have used both regular Partition and Partition Gold in 180 grain for my .30-06Sprg. With both bullets I have taken 10-15 animals each (from steenbok to zebra). I have found no big difference in those bullets, so regular Partition is my choice since they`re a bit more accurate in my rifle.. Retained weight and penetration is about the same. I have not done this "scientifically", but have not seen differences. Hope that helped you a bit.. sambar1 , Think you need to check availability as I too have heard that the partition gold has been superseded by the accubond . Will be trying accubonds on pigs and donkeys in about a fortnight . Will let you know how they go . Donkeys are notoriously hard to kill . Nick Harvey really likes the partition gold (and accubond) if that is any help . The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood. M98, why would would you say i was brave to use a 150gr on sambar???? The projectile gave complete penetration and it dropped on the spot, any other brand of 150gr, may have been different, thats why i use the partition golds. Deer was dead, thats the aim. They would go well out of your 30/06 also, but then the 180gr corelok is hard to beat in the 06. cheers cc

cc just from my experience i have found with sambar you need a blend of bullet weight/and velocity ,i have a definate prefrence for the 200gn proj for sambar in 30 cal and more specifically the 200 gn partition for two reasons....the 200 gn proj breaks bone a lot better than the lesser weight proj, and secondley it usually leaves an exit wound which is handy for tracking as you can never predict what shot presentation you will get ,plus i take my sambar as they present them selves. To this day i have had only two sambar drop on the spot that i have shot , and in each instance they only droped because i blew the spine out , the rest have all covered some distance when shot ,and i have shot them under every concevable condition you can think of,on the run, standing feeding on dark not aware of anything and the buggers still ran ,i shot one deer broke both shoulders and he still covered 60 m if i could be sure that the barnes x in particular the 200 tsx would open up with the same regular monotoney that the nosler partition opens up this would be my mumber one choice proj in my 06 at about 2700 fps for sambar or anything else for that matter that proj you could shoot a fully grown sambar stag in the brisket from a front on shot and still break the back hip on the way out or from a side on shot you would break the back hips on a big stag and still have the proj exit, but there are still to many bad reports comming in about the barnes tsx of just drilling through animals and not expanding however im going to get some 200 gn tsx proj and put then through the CNC lathe and modify the hollow point...make it larger and more V shaped so expansion hopefully will accur even if bone is not hit..and this is the place where i belive the barnes tsx fails on accasions , when soft tissue is hit ...ie the proj slips inbetween the ribs they just drill through like a FMJ stick with the 200 gn nosler especially in the magnums and you will come out infrontanyway you look at it regards Daniel

M98, i usually carry a 338win, was using my oldmans 300wsm this particular time, for all practicle purposes what you say about using 200gr in the 30's, couldn't agree more mate. Am keen to try the 200gr accubond in the 300. cheers cc

cc if you hit bone at close range with the ACCUBOND it will flatten out like a washer ...at longer ranges they should be okay but they will not do anything the nosler partition will do daniel
