Anyone live near Canberra and have an idea of what my grocery bill per month will be?

Two of us living in the Washington DC area spend about 350-400 per month. And we eat about 75% of meals in the home. We probably spend another $300 eating out.

What about cable/satellite TV, internet, and land line phone?

I think a movie in the states is about 10-12$ per person, and another $15 for popcorn and cokes.

An oil change in a sedan is $35, and in a 6 or 8 cyl truck it is about $50, in a big Ford diesel it is $100-125.

I'll be there in November or December.

I spent almost 3 weeks in Oz this summer. Before I went I saw a survey that put Oz like the number 3 best country to live in after norway and finland,, something like that. It did state the cost of living was high there,, but there income was better there as well. I found it to be considerably more expensive to buy groceries, etc there. One of the waiters we had went to school here in the states, near me in Texas and has a college degree,, had a good job in Chicago but went there to "see the world" he said he made 20 bucks per hour waiting tables. He told us it cost a good deal more to live there but just as locals do most places,, they learn where and what to buy.

I didn't make it down to the capital where you are going but spent time in Brisbane, Caines, and Gove.. I found the people very friendly, helpful, etc,,, even the Kiwis! Sports to them is not a hobby,,, it is a passion as well!

you can make more money, you can not make more time

Can't really say mate as it all depends on where you shop and how careful you are. For instence I don't go near coles or woolworths for my food. I shop at our local IGA and get my meat from a whole sale butcher and fruit and veg from a Fruit and veg shop down the highway.
Pay TV/internet/landline will all depend on what deals are being offered at the time you want to connect.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"
