Couple of questions for Australian members.

I was thinking about stocking up on Woodleigh projestiles next time i'm in Australia.

Do i need a firearms to buy unloaded projectiles???

And would i need an export permit???

I do the "ammo in , ammo out" thing in Oz reasonable often and the rules differ from State to State. IIRC any part of a cartridge is deemed to be a cartridge under Federal law so you would legally need an export permit to take projectiles out of the lucky country. Its odds on you would need a firearms licence to purchase projectiles as well , but "locals" will know more about that than I.

In SA only powder, primers and loaded ammo "needs" a firearms licence. But you probably would be buying in NSW or which state?

In Victoria you only need a licence to purchase loaded ammo, Have you tried going direct to Woodleigh's I heard sometime ago that they will export bulk projies, google Aus. customs (don't rememeber the site) and make an inquiry,

if you can buy them on ebay then you dont need a licence, some boored customs officer may bail you up on the way out

Yep I can and will telephone customs, but ... any answers here.

Dont know what quantity you are talking about but techically all imports need a permit, although imports of cases and projectiles do seem to slip in without it. It all depends who is checking. Personally I wouldnt risk it as the form and permission are easy to obtain and dont cost anything but a bit of your time.

In Vic if you call Customs they will refer you to the Licencing Section of Vic Police that issue the import permits. You need B709A. This is a customs form issued by Vic Police. Technically once you have applied you could risk importing but once the import hits Customs you have 28 days to produce your permit and if you dont have it you risk losing your goods. Bottom line is plan in advance as these things take time.

The import/ export thing in Oz is very frustrating. I'm trying to swap a rifle trigger with someone in the US and the amount of paperwork and bureacracy I have had to deal with is frustrating. Exporting from here requires a permit issued by the Defence Dept, then an export permit by Customs.

I had some projectiles sent to me and they got impounded by customs (got a letter in the mail telling me so). I had to ring the NT police and once I told them they were for personal use they issued me a permit without a problem. The bullets were then forwarded on to me.
