I got some brass off them the other day but they only have Norma loaded ammo. $190 for a box. Beats the hell out of $240 that is charged in Darwin. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" Hi Bakes: I am waiting for some 416 Rigby Jamison brass to be brought up from the USA. It is $182.36 USD for 100 compared to over $200 for 50 pieces of Norma in Canada. I will let you know how it is for quality but i have read good reports on Us forums. Regards Dan

Bakes, Its available! Picked up the CZ416Rigby "American" yesterday plus x1 packet of Hornady 410gr factory loads for $135. Basically bought the ammunition for the cases. Rifle's barrel is currently soaking to get all the crap out of it from the factory ... then I might just sneak off to the back dam to smash some bricks, test the feeding and hear an African calibre let rip. Cheers... Con

Bakes, Forgot to add ... ammunition was at O'Reilly's in Melb, and there's another 2 packets there. I picked up a set of RCBS dies from them for $105 ... and man I think that may have been a mistake as I was expecting a MUCH higher price for Group D dies. Western Firearms sell dies at $130 for Lyman (US$30 from Grafs ) whilst RCBS are about US$55 so $105 local was okay by me. In the coming weeks I'll be picking up some Bertram brass and projectiles to try out as my 416Rigby will be sticking to "traditional" velocities and the Bertram brass should be okay at that level. His projectiles are 410gr cup-core type for $88 per 100. Not as cheap as Taipan but should be equally good "plinkers". Drop me a PM if you need anything as I'll be sending some Bertram projectiles to PC to trial as well, plus sharing some load data with him. Cheers... Con

we dont make mistakes at Oreilly's Con, we bought those on special as the importor has now changed to Nioa. I try to keep a good stock of big bore stuff for all you guys as it is also what I love, but with you guys going direct to the states for all your gear I wonder why I bother? Perhaps when all the gunshops are gone, bought back by the Government, and you guys cannot get anymore guns, ammo and other goodies, you will all sit around on this same forum trying to figure out what you are going to do next, and remenise about the old times when you had a guy working at a local gunshop that wanted to help you? Anyway Bakes, we have got a couple of packs there, let me know what you need. Dave.

OReilly, I know what you mean, but there is another side to the coin. I've got money burning a hole in my pocket and don't know what to spend it on. I get the SSAA mag and Guns and Game and pour through the adds to see what I "need". A couple of years ago I rang every gunshop in Australia I could find ads for, for a rifle part. No one had it, no one offered to order it except QGE. 18 mths later I still didn't have it. Other orders, I've been told by the gunshop a part was on back order (whatever that means.) So when I rang the Distributer direct and said I was going to complain to the USA company they begrudgingly found the parts. Bacically they just couldn't be bothered. I just love ringing a gunshop in a capital city to buy a few things, this they've got, that they havent, the other they won't send, and the main thing you wanted is "on the wharf". What about the case tumbler I saw advertised. Turned out to be a vibrator, made in china with an RCBS sticker on it and a European type plug. Medium,? what medium? Oh that doesn't come with it. Order thousands of rounds of .22Rf ammo,? sure the wrong stuff turns up. Mail order is it, more like a bloody lottery. PS couldn't seem to find your ad in the latest SSAA mag. I'm interested in a good price on maybe a chrono, Wipe-out, .458 projectiles, Lee factory crimp for 30-30 and .458 win. a deal on a Leupold 1-5 or 1.5- 6 for the .458 and many things on special I don't even know I want, yet.

JAL, I do know what it is like to deal with most gunshops, as I spent a lot of time on the buyers side of the counter, for a long time. I really do stress how important it is now days to support your local shop, more than ever. Little shops and rural guys are really starting to stray. The government is just waiting to pounce on them, buy them out and close the doors forever. We all try really hard at Oreillys to follow up on customer orders, I especially do all of the big stuff for all you boys. Hell, we even answer the phone there now! Anyway, we dont advertise in the ssaa mag anymore because it just got too dear. I want to be clear about Con, I didt want to sound like i was having a shot at him or anything, it just makes me laugh how he is happy to buy from us when he thinks we have made a mistake, but is happy to stiff us over the next set of dies when he can save 20-60 dollars going direct to the states. Mabey its just my old school mentality, but I lived over an hours drive from oreillys when i was younger, but i was all to happy to drive past all the other shops on the way to shop there, as I knew they might not always be the cheapest on everything, but will be happy to bend over backwards for me, they always had the most of my order in stock, share their vast knowledge with me, and look after me with a deal when they could. I guess what i am trying to say is it goes both ways you know, you wouldnt believe the amount of guys, first timers, that walk in that place, go to buy something, and then ask for a better deal. What for buddy, this is the first time we've seen you in here, I know because guys that have been around, know that we are the cheapest, so they don't bother asking. Anyway, thats enough of that, email me a detailed list or call me at the shop, and I'm sure i'll be able to look after you mate. Dave.

dcm, I can understand where you are coming from but it's bloody frustrating when you read an add in a shooting mag for a product, ring up and find they have no stock and get the answer it's on order well why advertise it in the first place until you have it in stock. O'Reilly's catalogue which was advertised for $10 and took three months to arrive, which pissed me off and I really got pissed of when they were being handed out FREE at the Shot Show, nuff said, be shopping somewhere else..

We handed them out as a good will gesture, as the organisers were pressuring everyone to support the guys that turned up for the show. Sorry you feel that way. I look at it the other way, why not encourage everyone who made the effort and paid the entry fees by giving them some information, I look at the big picture for the greater good of the sport. You feel cheated out of your ten dollars, half of which covered postage, and cant see past that. Good luck with your shopping venture elsewhere, i'm fairly confident it wil cost you more than an extra 10 bucks on your first purchase elsewhere. Dave.

Dave, Actually you got me wrong. If you guys had of quoted $150 plus ... I would have been happy to walk out and order from the States and hence as you put; "stiff" you. But the price you gave me was NOT what I would consider an excessive mark-up compared to buying from the States. The dies mentioned from another source ARE excessively marked up don't you think? I thought the mistake may have been due to past history with quotes for RCBS dies from other places ... or quotes from RayTrade full stop!! Oddly I asked whether the dies were received from Nioa as there has been speculation of RCBS gear dropping in price with the change of importer ... but was told "No ... from Raytrade". Dave ... honestly, no offence meant if anything has sounded harsh, but the term "stiff us" has hit a raw nerve with me today. Getting a quote (NOT from you guys!) on RCBS 458Lott dies a few years back of $300 is the local industry "stiffing" the consumer. A quote (NOT from you guys!) on Rem700 RUM magazine box and follower of AUD$150 for a US$8 part from Brownell is also "stiffing" the consumer. You guys have done a great job over the many years I've shopped with you ... but dont get a big head over it. I actually had a cheaper quote from a Qld gunstore on the CZ 416Rigby ... but they referred me to you saying "Buy from O'Reilly's ... it'll only cost $5 more after shipping ... but they're nice enough blokes." I whole heartedly agree ... but competition is also a good thing! Perhaps O'Reilly's gunstore should take the next step and become an importer of reloading components ... and get us the consumer even better prices, maintain your profits and add to competition on the local scene. Got to be good for everyone right?? Cheers... Con

dcm, mate I don't give a rats arse about $10's what gets up my nose is lack of service and attitude of sales staff in a number of gun shops across Aus. you said it yourself: "we even answer the phone now" yeah ok? what ever. As a "good well gesture" how bout refunding everyone who forked out for a catalogue which was free at the show. everything in that catalogue I take it you have in stock.... I've shopped at your store for over 30yrs (Weekly Times adds remember) as have my mates I've sent them a copy of your reply, guess what....

Con, I would love to be able to go direct on reloading, but unfortunetly all the be importers have tied it all up. Oreillys have always done a lot of reloading gear, more than any other shop i've ever been in. Mark took it apon himself a few years ago to bring in norma brass as no one else would, I'm sure you will agree that the price of that has gone through the roof since parrabelum got it! I wonder how many poor souls walk in there to buy WBY brass, not knowing that we still have it at nearly half the price? Same with Rebel in Qld. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new rifle, I'm honestly surprised you found a cheaper one anywhere, as I order in and turn over a lot of those, so I keep our margin to a bare minimum. Have fun mate, hope I didn't sound like I was having a shot but like I said, we don't make mistakes. Those dies come from Raytrade who dropped an extra 20% off when they lost that agency to Nioa. I think you should find the price of RCBS come down a bit, as Nioa haven't got the massive margins on it they had. A kinetic hammer for example we have always sold for $65, are now just $45. Cheers mate, see you in the shop. Dave.

dcm, Sorry about that I had a emergency call out, I was going to say guess what... they are in the same mind as myself about service or lack of it and if we gotta import from overseas so be it, all the best with your store, I might try ringing during the week just to see how long it takes get an answer haha..my last post on this...cheers........
