Interesting. We're going in June; so it looks like if we apply right now its on the old system, and if we wait its on the new system? Or is it that if we apply on the old system and they happen to get the new system operational we do it again?

I don't know if NZ Police give any operational dates for the new system. If you can maybe wait until about 1 month before you travel and appy then. If you apply now with your proposed travel dates they would either immediately issue permits, which should be good even post new system commencemet, or they might withold the permit and tell you to apply after the new system starts.

Were it I - I would email via the contact details on the web page and ask - now - what is the preferred method of application.

Bear in mind that Firearms management within the NZ Police is in somewhat of a flux at present , and there may be delays in getting the new system to work.

I'm stuck in the middle of this mess right now - leave in 2 weeks. Not sure if I will be able to take my own rifle or not.
