Hi Guys. A good mate and I are looking at venturing over the ditch for a Thar/Chamois combo hunt next year with the possability of Red stags as well if the budget will allow.

We are keen on a free range hunt and want to experience the full NZ hunting experience so massive trophies are not neccessarily the number 1 priority.

Does anybody have some reccomendations for guides or advice on who to avoid? Not keen on mustering stock with a chopper or pinging someones pet chained to a post Big Grin

We are currently looking at Chris McCarthy and Marcus Pinney as options but happy to take advice.

Thanks in advance.

Oscar, try this guy. My friend is booked with him. He does private land hunts, but also can arrange "Estate" animals if you so wished, which it doesn't sound like you do (nor I). Seems honest and helpful, as we were concerned if we'd be able to physically do such a mountain hunt. The youtube entry is one of a hunter he recently guided successfully who was less than fit. Good luck!

Marcus and Chris both run really good free-range fair chase tahr and chamois hunts. You would be doing well to find any one better to hunt with. Both these guys do most of their hunts on the West Coast. This is real hunting and I'm sure you will have a great hunt.

We hunted free range and on foot for tahr and chamois with Gerald Telford of Telford Fishing and Hunting Services and can't offer high enough praise for Gerald. He is first class all the way.

We also took arapowa ram, red stag and fallow deer on the hunt.
