DuggaBB the pics show only a portion of the deer(mainly) on display, beneath those sambar would be another fifty sets of antlers, some massively heavy too, even the malformed wide ones were good to look at...old mate Ian Humphries grabbed me and showed me a 40 inch wide malformed..i would nearly have it mounted it being so unusual.

Rocky mountain b/horns m/goats full mount chital and muntjac, hooggies fallow all great stuff to check out and the trade tables were brimming with goodies i made six (i think) purchases,Errol Masons book from the man himself after i checked it out and deemed it to be a good one.I wasnt a convert until i scanned it though. And a signed copy made it worth the $100 cheaper than originally posted here from memory.

Last ADA exb was in `81 mate so she aint that annual haha..get off your freckle and get the legs in order mate its only around the corner now..

I went as well , thought I saw you Gryphon . We arrived about 10am . It really was very impressive . There was one set of antlers on the floor , just a skull cap that had massively thick beams . That was my favourite head . We went to the dinner afterwards which was worth the entry fee . It was good to be able to talk deer-hunting without anyone getting bored .

I hope it is repeated sooner than 26 years .

Gryphon - where was the rusa taken? Hard to imagine that it could have come from 'outside the wire'. I'm not casting any aspersions on the owner of the trophy here - I dont know the stag...

thanks

First of all i note the respect shown up top for the Jewish people by Admin.Well done.

Well you shoulda said g`day then Mark,i dont know your face otherwise i would have.
That head on the floor was a pearler wasnt it,and not far along the row was another like its weight.i stopped and looked at it more than a few times as heavy heads are just it for me.I have prob five what i call "lighter heads" over 25 that i havent mounted,i should but its hard to justify the dough these tough times.

Matt Graham i dont know where from but i would back it (unknowingly) that its an N.C head, remember they have ben shot wild there up to 42 inches(42? yes)Maybe email Trevor for some details.

Trevor W measured a set of cast sambar a fella had just then brought in at 33 inches and heavy too,we spoke about them and he said you think thats heavy, take a look at these he had in his digi.cam well i have to say that if one like it gets up in front of me i would shake at the knees with buck fever, beer bottle thick, long necks too not stubbies with the length to go with the weight.

Yes John there is a caption with that pic so thats the one, even though the Wap is alongside that rusa holds his ground for his species. As far as the new num one,the little paper sign under it proclaims that it is so i dont doubt it being posted in such a display.

As an aside JH what would be the longest chital you saw on your trip to India last year? I have a pic from AusHunt that i will post hes a gem.

Gryphon

Yes it looks like a New Cal head but there are certainly 39inch rusa stags behind wire in Australia. When you said an Australian No1 - tht would indicate that it was shot in Australia - right? Unfortunately New Cal isnt part of Australia!!

WOW that's a big chital/axis. Where was that photographed? I was lucky enough to be in on a hunt last year, where we got a 32inch stag (QLD) but you know they grow them up to 37 inches and bigger in Texas (USA) and 34-35inch chital are fairly regular there.

I don't know if you found the same thing Gryphon but I found it hard to guess Douglas scores just looking at the heads . Ian Humphries had a blinder of a sambar on his stand but when my mate Ivan asked him , it only scored 201 . Other smaller heads scored much higher .
I bought a second copy of Errols' book for my 20 year old who with his best friend is getting interested in sambar . Errol did a nice note to him in the front cover .

I'm sorry I don't remember any large rusa or rusa at all (I will have to re-look at my photos). Lots of chital and some sambar. A ffffing fantastic sambar too, a few metres from the vehicle but he was off in a rush and no photographs. Lots of barasingha too.

Gryphon

The Rusa was shot in Qld at either Niall or Maryvale station (can't remember which).

I've been meaming to ask - has anybody heard about or seen the fantastic Sambar shot by Bluey from "Bluey's Bait and Tackle" in Wadonga. My mate and I were down that way for a few weeks of Sambar hunting last June and visited the shop one day. There on the floor was this magnificent head which he had shot that weekend. Just wondering if anybody knows how many points it went and if anyone else has seen it?

Cheers.

Hic hic. I didn't want to contradict you. Didn't think there were Rusa in India?!

Whats the guesstimate standard for chital again, the length of the face is eith 9 inches or is it 12 inches. Anyway that stag looks to be 34 - 36 inches to me (upper end to). What do you estimate? (I'm not big into measuring tapes BTW)

I saw quite a few in that sort of range and similar size.

Which park did the pic come from? Kanha?

Will look at my photos again. Of chital. Smiler

I cant tell you face measurements Nitro but at ten inches that fella has to be way up near 40 inches mate.He is a ripper and my Tassy mate has just come back from Qld where he took a 31 that is a toy compared to the Indian bloke.

I cant tell which park but Kanha would be a good guess mate.

I would say it is at least 36inches. It would be interesting to compare it to your photos from India John.

Some photos of chital I have already posted on NitroExpress.com. I probably have several hundred images. Maybe I have other good ones?

I saw the sticks your talking about today the mount is to be done this week coming I think. From memory it it 32. something inches but it has a massive girth. They did say what it scored but that is just double dutch to me so it did not stick in my memory. A very nice head for sure and Trevor Willis has another on the floor now that he has almost finished that is bigger, to my eye anyway. There have been some very good heads taken in the past year thats for sure.

Great Photos Nitro

Cheers
