oh boy, oh boy, oh boy
the smith has said 50-110 should be ready in 3 weeks, even though he hasn't started it yet.

I started on this project in 2002, smith has only had the rifle for 3 months though.

416, that is a serious load. Have you guys considered flattening the noses of woodelieghs 50cal black powder jacketed bullets. These would bomb like a 45-70 bullet in a 458win.

I cut of the tip of the 535 grain woodleigh and sand the nose flat with the jacket for use in my .50 alaskan lever gun.

Yes I have been looking at shortening Woodleighs
The 600grn looks like it might still be able to be over 500 when turned down, now I just need to find someone with a lathe. The 440 you mention with the lead cut off looks promising.
I had the guy at Tenring get a mould which I paid for Frowner they weigh about 530 and as long as I don't get leading I will mainly use them as they are half the price of Woodleighs.
I am getting a removeable muzzle break and will be wanting to restock at some stage.

416, main advantage of the 440 shaved down for you guys would be lowest recoil option for full house loads.
Sounds like you are setting yours up to handle heavy recoil anyhow.
What is the weight of the rifles you and PC are getting?

Karl.

Karl,

I figure mine will come in at 8-10 pounds....I am not going for to much weight, I would rather back off the loads a bit and have a portable gun, I do not want a break either.

You know, I rarely (if ever) get jealous of what other people have. What I have has always brought me happiness and contentment.

But in your case, I could make an exception!!! Big Grin

Why? Because to own what you see below has long been an ambition of mine -- but one I've lately come to realise I will never achieve.

So yes, I envy you -- but I am very happy that someone is getting a wish/dream fulfilled! Smiler

This man's dream:

Karl,

as they came in 45/70 4 in the mag and one in the chamber....however I have bought a 1886 mag tube from Wisners and it is 25" long so that I can have a full length mag tube rather than a half length one which is what is currently on the rifle as is. I reckon I may get six in the mag and one up the spout for a seven shot 50-110.

PC,
A seven shot 50-110 Big Grin Hells bells.
Well I am in the process of finally moving with that certain calibre I have been thinking of for the last year.
I think a little hunt with the world's most powerful elephant gun and the world's highest capcity and fastest firing cowboy style elephant gun might be in order down the track
What do you reckon?

We can have the 585's on standby for the gentelmen trophy shots for ferals at longer range. Big Grin

West Aussie
The 1886 is a John Browning designed Winchester lever action, not to be confused with the 1885. I think PC identified your pic correctly as a 1874 trapdoor which Forbes do sell repros of, links below.
Forbes Wholesale here in Vic imports the Pedersoli line of rifles. The one rifle that Forbes sells that I would like is the Kodiak double rifle in 45/70, but for me I think it will be the Remington - Spartan/Baikal double.
