Lorenzo,

A grizzly tag is a decade or more wait. A moutain goat is a once-in-a-lifetime draw, not based on priority points, just luck (not counting one very unfortunately incident). A pronghorn buck takes 4-5 years in a good area, a doe a bit less. Turkey is a wait.

Other than that, there are over-the-counter tags for everything else. You may need to drive a bit further, or hike a bit steeper, but the opportunities are there. Whitetail, mule deer, elk, moose, wolf, black bear, cougar, bighorn sheep, assorted birds...how much does she want to hunt in one year? ;-)

I shot a wolf in my first year here, a bighorn ram in my second...no shortage of hunting opportunities.

But I *can* get cold...

Water Buff and Banteng are only in the Northern Territory, pigs are bloody everywhere . The NT is about 5 hours flying from Sydney, about 5-6 days of good solid driving.

You don't have to vote if your not enrolled (you won't need to be unless you discide to stay)and living here's great. Well up my way is don't know about Sydney

I don't know about a gun licence if you are on a temp visa, perhaps someone else can comment?

Thanks Bakes,
5 hours by plane??!!! woww!! I need 9 or less to touch Capetown from here

She has been playing for a while about doing a master somewhere and I will have to choose ("vote") between some countries. It's not sure yet but it's something important for her and I don't want to put "stones" in her career.

A pity that there aren't many famous universities near Dar, Harare or Windhoek

Thanks again

Hi Karl,

Uruguay is a small, friendly and safe country. Hunting is mostly birdshooting (doves, partdriges and ducks). Big game hunting is also possible but not like your country or our neighbour Argentina, due to size and geography.

I think Australia must be one of the best hunting destinations in the hole world, a pity it's so far from here

Big game in Uruguay: axis, fallow, pigs, waterbuff, etc mostly the same like in your country but not as big or wild

Gun laws for centerfire rifles are quite difficult but one can obtain special permits if you can pay them, not big deal but not very affordable or easy to the normal village chap from the countryside. Yes, here are many hunters, the most traditional game for uruguayans are partdriges and wild boars.

Is expensive to hunt waterbuffs or banteng there?

A scrub bull is a feral cattle bull?

Take care

Lorenzo

Thanks John,
She is an architect, is there any University there you can reccomend us to see what possibilities they offer???

Just now we are just playing with the idea but she is very serious with it so maybe the sooner we do it better, I don't want to be out of my country to much time...unless we can poa...sorry, hunt a lot of buffs there

How is the life in Sydney?
Do you live near there?

Because if not the other possibility is the States...but I'm the kind of guy who needs open places and the more far away the horizon the better for me
Thanks
Lorenzo

Typed a reply and then lost it.

Sydney is just around the corner away, at 1500 kms as the crow flies. A bit more by road.

One or more of the Syndey Universities would have excellent architectual faculties.

What you must do however is pop over the Pacific, and join us for a water buffalo hunt. One is being planned for August 2005. Plus a pig or three, a stag or two ....

How about the university of Calgary? When she arrives she'll be immediately considered a resident (provided she actually has an address), and after the easy hunting education exam she can hunt for mule deer, whitetail deer, elk, moose, sheep, black bear, and birds. More than she can handle in a year anyway. But she shouldn't mind a bit of cold and snow....ah, there's also a matter of a Federal gun safety exam to be taken....

In the immediate vicinity of Sydney I wouldn't expect more than a bit of pig shooting, correct me if I'm wrong. Banteng is severly restricted, and like buff only "up top". Scrubbers may be found, but are not around every corner, or on every next property.

Believe me, I've been through that decision process.
But maybe for a year the hassle of getting licensed in Alberta may be too much...don't know how that works in Oz...getting more and more restricted I hear.
