This time with my youngest bloke. Went to the property that I took my eldest a few weeks ago to recover the game camera. Saturday morning saw us and the property owner sneaking down a spur when three chital were spotted about 250 meters across the gully. It took us about 40 minutes of good stalking to get within 30 meters and Jadam took a great shot through the lungs on a stag just starting to grow his antlers. The other two took off and Jadam shot under the other stag, kicking up dirt. I took the rifle and managed to put one into it.

As I made my way up the gully to check if I had got it, I saw it sneaking off but as I topped a rock outcrop I saw it limping on the other side of the gully. Another shot and down he went.

Jadam was talking himself up and said he wanted to carry the whole animal out, so after gutting we did a bit of a Kiwi carryout. I was laughing my arse off at him as it was bloody steep and it slipped off two times Big Grin He did it but (After a LOT of rest stops) but it wrecked him rotflmo

End result was more meat in the freezer and some good photo's on the game camera. Thoroughly enjoyable hunt with the boy.

This fella walked passed the camera as we were shooting his mates on the other side of the property.

to the hereditary skin head? HA!

Shanks I didn’t know if we did it right. It did slip off twice. I don’t think I skin down the leg far enough.

That boy will remember the hunt for the rest of his life.

Great eating too.

Most common way in NZ to carry animals. In all the deer I have ever seen and carried I've never see any ticks, we don't have Lymes disease and while some pigs have a few lice there is nothing that carries diseases etc. Have carried a few hundred animals out this way.

Didn't carry like this when in Germany though as the roe deer were most often riddled with ticks and lice and the ticks carried Lymes.

One of my sons carrying out a good red deer eater.
