Just got back from a N.T. pig and donkey hunt with Glenn Giffin of Muckadilla Safaris .
Pigs were a bit scarce but the 2 of us took 15 for the 3 days . Took a similar number of donkeys for bait .
Those buggers sure take a bit of stopping when their adrenaline gets up!
Glenn put in a huge effort for us , starting at 5.30 A.M. each day and finishing up at about 11.00 P.M. each night . Most of our pigs were taken off baits by moonlight .
Accomodation was great with a very friendly station family providing fabulous meals including freshly caught Barra .
Plenty of buffalo and scrub bulls around too .
I'd thoroughly recommend Glenn to anyone chasing a reasonably priced hunt . His mobile number is 0412 308338 .
Will post some photos eventually .No record breakers unfortunately .
Bakes , sorry we couldn't catch up as planned but were pressed for time when passing thru Katherine .

No worries BC, glad you had a good time.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Hawkeye ,
Glenn is currently hunting on a station East of Katherine and also at a (no frills) tent camp on the Hart River in Arnhem Land . Charges for a 5 day buffalo hunt in Arnhem Land (including cost of 4wd travel to hunting area) are around $2450 plus trophy fee for 1 on 1 or around $1475 plus trophies for 2 on 1 . Management cows are $200 , bronze medal management bulls $800 , silver medal bulls to 99 SCI are $2000 , gold medal over 100 SCI are $4500 .
On the cattle station a 5 day hunt , 2 0n 1 is around $3900 . This includes a buff , a boar and 6 donkeys .We saw a couple of silver medal buffalo bulls on the station but no gold medal stuff . Then again , we were only looking for pigs .
Good scrub bulls are around $1000 and we saw a few .
BTW , travel time to and from the hunting area is not classed as hunting time .
Glenn obviously does pig hunts and is also looking at doing a group donkey management hunt in October .
Glenn is still taking bookings for 2005 and is pretty negotiable depending upon what you want to hunt . I should be on a commission . thumb

Bushchook

The magazines don't really care if you post it here. The numbers of views doesn't affect circulation.

My goodness, Bushchook ! Very few donkeys up here in the Great White North. I doubt if I see half a dozen a year ..But we saw a fair number in Northern Uruguay in August when we were hunting water buffalo. I have to admit that when they sounded off they made the most irritating sound .. Almost like someone was imitating a donkey on television. Confused If a herd all started to make that kind of noise, I'd be tempted to sling lead just to bring peace back to the valley . Big Grin

Scruffy ,
Spent a lot of time hunting by the light of a full moon when we were in the NT . You could hear the donkeys braying from miles away . Heaps of them up there .
Spent a week in Alberta a few years back . Where are you from ?

Yo ! I'm from Southern Alberta. wave A little praire city named Lethbridge which is about sixty miles north of Montana, U.S.of A. and about 75 miles east of the Rocky Mountains. For scenery, this area right here is about the most boring place in all of Alberta .. but everyone has to live somewhere .. and in an hour or two I can be hunting elk, moose, bears, white tail or mule deer, pronghorn antelope - even big horn sheep. Done all that many times .. time to get to Australia and treat myself. I'm still waiting for the mail from Muckadilla to arrive. That tent hunt for buffalo sounds perfect for me and my lady. And very fairly priced. Were you in Alberta hunting black bears or just looking around ? Confused

Scruffy ,
Just doing the rubberneck (tourist) bit unfortunately - although that was awesome anyway . Jasper / Banff are definitely some of the most beautiful places I have seen . Seemed to be a hunter's paradise too . Closest I got to Lethbridge was Calgary .

That country, Banff and Jasper , Bushchook, is amazingly beautiful. Should you decide to come back sometime, I would suggest taking the Alaskan Highway up to Northern British Columbia and if you can see Muncho Lake when it ain't raining and fogged in ... My oh freakin' my but that is beautiful country.. Any snow capped mountains in buffalo country in Northern Australia .? Wink Also, if you do come back and you have some time, I could take you and your family along the Yellowhead in Northern B.C. to the coast .. spectacular scenery and in the right time of year - fabulous inexpensive salmon fishing .. (and really expensive (sigh) halibut fishing ...) My wife is complaining that we won't be having any freshly caught salmon and halibut this year. (Can't do everything on a teacher's salary although we have quite a lot of holiday time..) beer

At least you have some rocky outcrops , rivers and gorges Bakes . Flat and more flat here with bugger all rain and nothing bigger than a roo to aim at .
If you ever get to the point where you can't appreciate the beauty of somewhere like Alberta (or even Katherine) then a short course of aversion therapy out here would definitely cure you .

oldun ,
Sorta hard to remember which donkey was which because we shot a few . Looking at the exit wound I'm guessing it's one I shot in the neck from about 120 metres out . Dropped him like a bag of sh-t with a 140gn accubond .
They're tough bastards though and I'll be using a stronger projectile next time .
