I would like to hunt NZ next year with my son.We would be interested in Red Deer and ????? something else also.We are interested in Free chase hunts.Could any one give me an idea of what hunts cost there??????I have not a clue. Also, would anybody consider our Rifles as part payment for a Hunt.If you have a hard time getting what you want,we could buy them and leave them with as a understood part payment. The truth is,that this would probably be a one shot deal for us as that is what we can afford. Thanks for your time, and sorry if my questions seem ignorant. later ,OB

If you want a guided hunt then you should flick either trackersnz or highlander from this forum a PM. They are both professional guides , although there are lots of others here in NZ as well.

Any idea of a time you will be here ? Most deer species are in the roar/rut now , or just starting. If you want a trophy stag then now is the ideal time - if you just want a free-range hunt for reds or sika or fallow or whatever then Feb through to May is ok.Chamois or tahr can be hunted all year round mostly.

With some more information on your wishes it would be easier to make usefull suggestions .

Bring me something from Christiansen Arms or Blaser, and maybe I'll consider a swap. Smiler

Olbiker,

First off, you can't leave a rifle in a foreign country without doing export paperwork. It will be highly illegal, think of the TV show OZ if you get caught but it will be a federal penitentary.

Secondly, you can hunt in New Zealand without a guide.

Do some searches on the internet and you will see several places that will allow you to hunt for a tresspass fee or for a helicopter charter. And since there is no hunting season or limits in New Zealand you could whack away to your hearts content.

Google New Zealand and hunting and you will find what you need.

OLBIKER,

We are doing a hunt later this month in Australia and New Zealand. I have friends in both places that I have traded hunts with here in the US. It simplifies things greatly if you can use your contacts guns, especially if you hunt both countries. I don't like to not use my gun but my contact in N.Z. has a 300WSM exactly like my pet rifle so I'm going with it. Good Luck and Good Hunting.

It's no joke! The Us feds agressively pursue illegal exports. Part of the justify your budget approach to government!

Don't forget that now TSA, the airlines and the the destination governments all have paperwork related to your leaving the US with a gun and no paperwork of your returing with it!

Just an unfortunate part of the new world order, which if the UN gets their way you won't be able to travel with a gun much longer, so take them with you and hunt while you can. You might help keep the path open via your traveling it!

Best Regards
