Anyone here know about hunting around Townsville? I may be looking at a posting there next year.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Bakes its a bit like anywhere if you know the right people or ask the right questions there is plenty of hunting within the vicinity of Townsville. There is some great Chital hunting to be had just up the Herveys Range within an hour of Townsville CBD. The old hog is always getting around the area but better hunting is always going to be had the further you are prepared to search. There are little "pockets" of deer to the south of Townsville also consisting of Chital and Rusa. To find rabbits you will get a few of them up the range again and wild dogs/cats are about. There could be plenty of others areas and critters as I don't actually live in Townsville anymore but I still travel in that vicinity. Hope that helps.

In 2013, before we sadly left Australia we had a vacation up there.

I could live there. Doesn't seem to have the touristas that Cairns does, but much of the same climate and experience.

Pigs will be aplenty. One place we shopped for a piece of fried Barra, the owner was telling me he had all the pigs he could whack. Beyond that I am sorry I am not much help.

Thanks gents. Looks like I'll have to get out and about and visit some property owners. That will fill my weekends.

How are you Stebe? where are you now?

I'm in Cairns these days. Have been for the past 9 years. I have lunch regularly with your old mate Bek. I just came back from a Chital hunt near Charters Towers and driving down the Herveys Range I saw plenty of Chital along the roadside. Things are very, very dry up that way and the deer seem to be following the Burdekin river along. There appears to be some considerable tracks of military held land along that same road. Seems like a dangerous place for deer to venture!!

I first went up there for Talisman Sabre. We had a couple ships in the sugar port and I had to coordinate that lot.

It seemed to be more industrial/agricultural by far than Cairns is.
