Galahs, rabbits, crows, "grasshoppers". If its got feathers and fur it is a "target".

Also a small amount of clay targets with the shottie. I also have game silhouette targets for the rifle. Always try to practice with 20 - 100 shots before a serious hunt. Even if its only snap shooting with a .22.

You mean THEY actually allow some of you down under to actually keep and shoot some pistols? I thought you guys had to turn all your handguns in. Man, I hope and pray that will never come to past here in the states. Heaven forbid!!

475guy we can still own quite a few pistols but yes did lose quite a few too. 45 cal or over went as well as barrel lengths under 4" and magazines over 10 shot.(I think that is correct). Some of the above can be waivered if you jump through enough hoops such as 45 cal if you can prove you are a silhouette shooter etc.

They also tightened up licensing approval several levels, which was already hard. In some areas it takes 18 months of range shoots and courses to progress from a 22 pistol to a centirefire calibre.

This paperwork strangulation is of course the first step in banning something.

Some of the states in your country have even tougher laws than ours so believe me no one is safe.

Being a bit of a conspiracy theorist in my spare time I think the whole thing is a concentrated effort to disarm.

To that end I think the US is safe for a while yet since antis are still fine tuning techniques on the lightweight countries in Europe, Canada etc.

Britain went down like a bag of shit but Australia was a different challenge due to the sheer number of feral game here which does need to be culled.

Back to the topic, I like picking off clods and rocks at long range with military iron sights, and a mate manning a spotting scope beside me. Lots of fun if there is nothing to hunt. You'd be surprised what range you can hit things at.

Karl.

I shoot Western Action/Cowboy Action Shooting as well as Military/Service Rifle.
I don't have time to go Roo/Pig shooting because of family commitments and the travel distance required.

During the day, when there's no point hunting, my boy and I use soft drink and beer cans, plastic bottles full of water as targets. We set them up by driving or walking around and placing them at random. I put the locations into my GPS so that we have some idea of the range, and then the competition begins!! We figure that these are about the same size as a rabbit. Scoring is simple - metres to the target equals points awarded. 20 extra points are awarded for being able to call the fact that you've hit the top of the target (simulated head shot). You'd be amazed at what it does for your ability to pick off a bunny (and therefore anything else), at different ranges. My boy beats me nearly all of the time, but at the longer ranges, I can still outshoot him (go figure!!). Then again, he uses the 223, I use the 270. The explosion of water makes for a lot of fun!! Ever seen what a 270 does to a 5 liter plastic water container (full) at about 250yds?

We used to do much the same with one of the old one gallon tin cans (mower fuel can) but full of petrol with a candle or small fire burning next to it on a very dark windy night, the windier the better too as it really lifts the exploding vapour so much further/higher for an incredible ball of fire often fifty feet high,i used my old 7mm most times but any decent centre fire does it.
Not recommended for the `burbs fellas,we used to do it when i lived on a big property well out of the way and only in winter.
