180 yards from the house. I left it be and sneaked over a few nights ago and knocked a very big dog with quite some age on him.

How common are the dogs Gryph? The place I hunt on now has them but they are pretty cunning.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Gryph,
Do these dogs pose any danger to humans ?
What sort of success could you expect with walking and stalking for these dogs or is this impractical considering the size of area they roam ?
I think hunting them would be pretty cool.

Looks like a decent sized dog you got there. Well done.

Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

In packs, feral dogs can be dangerous.

A neighbor recently drove out to check on some cattle he has on property southeast of town. A pack of feral dogs tried to attack him and he shot a couple. Fearing for his cattle he came back to his barn and picked up some anti pest poison. Next day he took some snacks to the dogs and a couple days later they were all buzzard bait.
Good riddance.

No danger 99.9% of the time,I live with them and I am in their realm daily.....they see human they go..fast!
Any problems are where tourists interact with them in places like Fraser Island.

Success walking/stalking in the high country has bugger all chance of success. The roaming area is huge and a neighbour in his 60`s that was born here reckons they come around every three weeks as they are continually hunting for tucker. If there is plenty of tucker they will stay. For every 1000 trapped maybe 10 are shot and generally when the dog makes a big mistake. People will call them up but you could call all arvo with no success, was it because your calls were not genuine enough or simply no dogs there.
I woke a visiting daughter a couple of years ago to a pack that were yodelling and called them down to the bush edge a few hundred from the house. They answered for 30 mins but didnt leave cover.

We dont bait as I have my own dogs, the Gov baits with canid ejectors but not within a couple of K`s from farm boundaries.
These dogs are not just feral dogs they are hybrid dingoes with every attribute of a dingo.
