Anyone know what the modern equivalent of Nobels 80 shotgun powder might be ? I have a full canister of Nobels but no load data , and was toying with trying it in my 44 Magnum with subsonic loads . I am guessing its somewhere close to Unique or Red Dot ??? ________________________ Old enough to know better

G'day Muz, The oldest ADI manual burning rate charts list it as equivalent to AS50N/Green Dot/Du Pont 700X. So only good for light loads in .44Mag. Thing is though, I can't recall ever seeing any pistol data for it. Nobel had separate lines of 'Revolver no. x' and 'Pistol No. x' powders, in those days. It's also fairly coarse flakes, so mightn't meter too well for low charge weights. Still, nowhere near as bad as Du Pont 800X, which I've been experimenting with for .44/40 loads. BTW, I'm guessing you mean 'no pistol load data', as about the only source for the shotgun data on N80 was what was printed on the tin! Mine's still legible........ so I'm gradually burning it up in 28g skeet loads. Cheers, Doug

Thanks Gadge I am looking at using the Nobels 80 for subsonic loads in my 44 Magnum rossi Pomba rifle . Its suppressed as well so the loads will be light - at present we are using 7.2 grains of AP70N but the burn rate even with a wad is inconsistant. Small powder charges in large cases is an interesting scenario.... I figured that this powder would be somewhere in that bracket , was thinking more like Red Dot but still fairly cose. My container is a 2Kg plastic bottle marked as having been sold by Ammunition House , the marketing arm of CAC NZ - and they went out of business in 1983.... Thanks for that information , I'm sure we can develop a load that will function safely with this powder. ________________________ Old enough to know better
