Local farmer has a unique problem in his commercial piggery - rats, not just 1 or 2 but hundreds of them. The problem is that he can't shoot any lead shot nor place poison in case the pigs get contaminated.

We came up with a smart solution, reload 12ga with hard sorgum seed. Works well to about 6m. First trial a few days ago netted over 200 in about 2 hours. I was easily able to dispatch 2-3 of them with one shot. To maximise the amount of sorgum the wad is cut to remove the cushion webbing.

Many years ago, we got a mouse in my room.

The bloody thing kept making scratching noises, which were so annoying.

I went and got some biscuits, and an air rifle.

But, I could not find ny pellets Confused

Then I got a chewing gum, and started chewing it.

Opened an #9 shotgun shell, and mixed a few pellets in a small piece of chewing gum, and loaded it in the air rifle.

I lay on my bed, waiting for the mouse to come get the broken biscuit.

Eventually he came out, and I clobbered him!

In the bloody guts!

Made quite a mess, but no more mouse noises! clap

Over 400 in just two nights. The sorgum is just devestating at anything closer than 4m.

Head shot at 2m

Rape oil seed was the standard for killing pidgeons in barns when I was younger. Seeds are almost perfectly round, won't damage the barn roof and knocked the hell out of the birds.

Not sure of velocity but the most effective load was 24gns of old 452AA powder. This is far beyound the loading manuals but still didn't damage any of the sheet roof.

Use to hunt rats when we had open pit garbage dumps a great time.

You well find this rat hunting story interesting.
